Yes, it is the new hybrids. I hesitated to say that here because of many’s affection for heirlooms.
It was all I could do to keep the flowers and trees and new seeding in the lawn alive. I was dumb enough to spray the vigorous oxalis patches in the stressed lawn and now I’ll have new seeding again next year. Lord, I hate maneuvering hoses.
I’ve worked for Heirloom and Commercial seed houses. I grow whatever varieties perform the best for me. :)
I'm coming around to hybrids but will always grow some heirlooms, if for no other reason than the entertainment. My heirloom mater plants did some wild things this year. Main stem splitting off into 4-5 stems. Suckers coming out of the main stalk but not in conjunction with an existing branch. Plants deciding to start a second main stem out of the root ball months into things.
Re: moving garden hoses to gardens
I hear ya. We had a drought this year (Wisconsin) and I got tired of pulling long stretches of regular garden hoses everyday.
Anywho.....here is what makes it easier. I now have all my hoses of this brand, with the old type hoses stored for watering farther away newer evergreens a few times a year....The Zero G hose.
Got mine at Farm-n-Fleet.
I went to Lowe's & bought her this hose: lightweight, reaches everything & she loves it. It does expand & contract - we keep it in a hose 'basket'. I liked her hose so much, I went back to Lowe's the same day & bought the last 100' hose they had - makes watering my garden SO much easier.

A brother warned me that they will burst if you leave them full of water in freezing weather. I always drain the hoses (turn off faucet, leave wand valve open) so they will retract & store in the hose baskets.
