WASHINGTON, Sunday, Nov. 23.
Yesterday afternoon, about ninety of MOSEBY's men approached within three miles of Bealton, with the intention of making a raid on the railroad. Being dressed in Federal uniforms the detachments of the First Pennsylvania and Sixth Ohio cavalry, who were in the immediate neighborhood at the time, mistook them for friends; but soon discovered their error when the rebels fired a volley into them, by which several were wounded. The rebels were instantly pursued and driven into Snecker's Gap. Six of the gang were captured. At the latest accounts our cavalry had not returned.
JOHN MINOR BOTTS, who is now at his residence at Auburn, in Culpepper County, previous to our recent advance over the Rappahannock, sent a letter to the Richmond Examiner on the subject of his arrest add treatment. It is full of interest and a copy has been obtained for publication.
The storm ceased last night, a drying wind prevails to-day.
The Sixth Army corps, Maj.-Gen. SEDGWICK, commanding, was reviewed near Brandy Station on Friday.
Sutlers are now permitted to bring up tobacco for sale to the soldiers, and fill orders for the immediate necessities of officers; but supplies for the latter are to be placed in the hands of those ordering them as soon as they arrive. The sale of all articles by suite is, tobacco excepted, is prohibited.
Impressions in regard to the enemy's strength on the Rapidan are various. Some maintain that LEE's entire force does not exceed 35,000; others place it as high as 75,000.
It rained all day yesterday.

According to NYT coverage of the War between the States, the Confederacy lost every battle and the war ended at Bull Run.
