BREAKING: Reuters reports the maker of ChatGPT had made progress on Q* (pronounced Q-Star), which some internally believe could be a breakthrough in the startup's search for superintelligence, also known as artificial general intelligence (AGI), one of the people told Reuters. OpenAI defines AGI as AI systems that are smarter than humans

Maybe our government could use some of that. I’ve never seen a dumber collection of imbeciles in my life.
There is no such thing as AGI yet.
like Fusion Energy, maybe in 5 years.
I have written extensively about this, and Fusion.
Given events of the past couple of years, that would be the eqiuvalent of a four banger calculator.
I have been playing with ChatGPT 4.0 and Dall-E, and am underwhelmed.
I was completely unable to have Dall-E render a pizza cook wear a snap front cap. It insisted on give hm a baseball cap, even when I stated NOT a baseball cap. I also used other terms for snap front cap (cabbie hat, flat cap, etc.)
Fusion....that’s the Gilette razor brand right? :)
I don’t know if true machine intelligence will be a thing, but as it moves from the ability to chose between two choices to three to four or to five and make the best choices, it will be almost indistinguishable to most of us, I think.
The only limitation is energy. So far, AI is very energy hungry.
I’m already surprised by the ability of machines to make art. Although they never seem to make the picture you want they do end up making good looking pictures.
Did any of these people ever watch the Terminator movies?
What could possibly go wrong?
Yep, considering Sky-Net and V-ger, they tried to warn us.
To make progress toward AGI they would have to be working on something completely different from ChatGPT. I think this is just bait for the next round of fund raising.
Since it is designed by human minds, won’t it be as stupid as humans? Especially if they’re woke.
.
There is no such thing as AGI yet.
But that’s what the talk is. That they have developed some alpha version of AGI internally at openai. I heard guys close to the industry say that AGI is not 5 years off but only year or so off.
you could be right that this is song and dance.
but are smarter than these guys and closer to action?
nobody currently has any way to evaluate claims before they actually become manifest.
if you ask the guys and girls at Helion, they believe fusion is only a year off.
I have played with a Lenovo server with 384 cores 3tb ram and 2 mi210 cards trying to emulate AGI.
My cat is much smarter, and costs less
