I am a firm believer that it ought to be legal to shoot people who are stealing stuff — “That’s not yours! BANG!” It's a close call - in fact too close if you are the one standing in line behind the punk who steals the jar.
It reminds one of the time when formal law enforcement was not readily available and people took care of it on their own. Those folks earned the name, "vigilantes", a class today held in very low esteem.
