Formula 1 fans watching the Las Vegas Grand Prix tore down controversial track view-blocking screens along the public areas of the city’s famous Strip during the returning race, Motorsport.com has learned.
The race had already courted some controversy in the weeks leading up to this weekend on this element when view-blocking filters were applied to areas of pedestrian bridges running over the Strip that prevented people without tickets from seeing the track.
When attempts were made to remove this by local residents, it was replaced in the relevant areas and had cage-like structures added that also covered the bridges' upper elements to stop anything being thrown down onto the track
Fans who only had tickets for Thursday's action were offered $200 vouchers to spend in the event's online merchandise store after they only witnessed eight minutes of live track action.
This has been followed by a high-profile Nevada law firm launching legal action against the Las Vegas GP organisation to try and secure refunds for the impacted spectators.

On a lesser scale, I enjoy a local dirt track, Sycamore Speedway, especially the spectator races and enduros, figure-8s.
A neighbor had never been there was taking his extended family. I had mentioned that it cools down at night to bring sweatshirts... He didn’t think so.
After a late run to the concession stand and $300 later...
Now they all attend fully decked out.

The video screens are stunning, extending completely to the left and right of your field of vision, and completely overhead as well. Computer graphics are particularly effective on those screens. As U2 performs "The Real Thing", there are graphics scrolling downward which convey the impression that the stage is actually rotating upward - the graphics are that vivid.
Real video displayed behind the stage isn't quite as convincing - the band displayed a night-time motion image of Vegas behind them at one point, which showed a bit of color wash-out and pixelation. There was also a daytime video of the desert, which was better and quite effective. It didn't make you think you were actually outdoors, but it might have made my dog try to run off if she was there.
Well worth seeing if you're in Vegas - if you're not a fan of U2, there's apparently a movie they screen in there regularly. But I was left wishing U2 had used more computer graphics. They are absolutely stunning on those screens in that arena.

You can’t top NASCAR for boring.

They don’t want people watching the race and not paying thousands. Thus the screens.

Thanks, it sounds very cool, borderline sensory overload.
If it shows a profit they will build one closer to my neck of the woods.
I want to see it.
