Skiing and Snowboarding in North Central Washington

As winter approaches, it’s time to dust off your snow gear and prepare to hit the slopes. North Central Washington has a variety of locations to enjoy downhill skiing and snowboarding, each offering unique views and diverse terrain.

Mission Ridge
Conveniently located just 12 miles from downtown Wenatchee is the Mission Ridge Ski and Board Resort. The Ridge’s 2,000 acres of sunny Central Washington dry snow has been a Wenatchee favorite for generations. With spectacular views of town and the Columbia River, the Ridge is the place to be on a sunny powder day!

Opening day was November 19th and lift tickets are available online. Visit www.missionridge.com to plan your trip–and check out their webcams to see the rare views of Central Washington from atop the ridge!

We are getting some good fall storms rolling off the Pacific which are making their way to Eastern WA, Idaho and Montana. We got a small snowfall this morning.

A tourism ad for "Visit Chelan County" popped up and I saw that the "Mission Ridge" ski area opened up today!

We were in the Wenatchee area on a late summer / early fall trip that took us throughout western Canada. The eastern and northern Cascades are magnificent and a great destination!

Mission Ridge was a regular destination for me being about 2 hours north and with excellent terrain and snow conditions (and plenty of sunshine and a good view of Wenatchee and the Columbia River). Some friends of mine would clock themselves at 60+ mph down Bomber Bowl but I was not that fearless.

I live in E. Washington, we always get heavy winter snow in the mountains to the consternation and disappointment of the Seattle based "global-warming-means-no-more-snow!" media.

Wax-up your skis and hit the slopes!

I had a buddy I skied with in the Sierras. He was always screaming “Need for SPEED!”

He was fearless. I wouldn’t even dare to try to keep up with him.

This can’t be true. According to the state we are not getting any snowpack and we end up with droughts every year from lack of runoff.

I remember around 1980 going from Texas to see my grandparents in Ellensburg and we skied at Mission Ridge. We all wore scotch guarded Wranglers and the locals wore bell bottomed Jordache. We stood out like a sore thumb.

LOL. I used to ski in blue jeans until one spring day in the mid 70s they got completely soaked and I got hypothermia. I was shaking violently and could not stop. I headed back to the car pronto and got the heater going full blast. It took quite a while for the shaking to subside.

I bought waterproof ski pants shortly thereafter.

We visited the North Cascades National Park two years ago. Very impressive.

If you skied New Mexico at Spring Break, you were more likely to have heat exhaustion.

I live near Tacoma. This state is beautiful. Just wish it wasn’t so freaking liberal!

Isn’t it? We drove through the North Cascades National Park on our Canadian trip. Went from Leavenworth north to the North Cascades Highway, then up to Vancouver and Whistler. It’s not a well-known park in the USA, either.

Isn't it gorgeous? The Schweitzer Ski Resort near Sandpoint, Idaho has similar views, but of Lake Pend Oreille and downtown Sandpoint.

“Just wish it wasn’t so freaking liberal!”

No kidding. Just like OR and CA, the liberalism is just awful and contrary to the 50% of those states that live in small towns and rural areas. Somehow the handful of ultra-liberal urban centers always carry the elections and impose their cultural marxism on everybody.

We spent the night in Leavenworth and also visited Lake Chelan on that trip. In September of this year, we went to Mt. Ranier and stayed at the Paradise Inn. Ranier is one of the more prominent peaks in all of North America, imo.

It’s not liberal in my part of the state. Not what the local population can control, anyway.

Those are some of our favorite places. Paradise Inn is the greatest — I love those old National Park Lodges. I first stayed there in 1974 when I did some engineering work in the Northwest and we stayed there again about five years ago.

Be sure to get to the Olympic Peninsula, too. Magnificent mountains over there and some VERY wet rainforest nearby, too.

"It's the water"! Hard to believe it was closed 20 years ago.

Now we have more cheeky beer names. Nothing as humdrum as featuring the WATER!
