A group who was recently mourning the loss of a loved one chose to have their funeral reception at a seafood restaurant after the service.
However, most of the party chose to leave without paying after racking up a bill of over $500.
Not only that, but one woman threatened to shoot a restaurant staff member.
A group of 20 people recently walked out on their $542 tab at Crazy Cajun Seafood in Houston, Texas.
The members of the funeral party were allegedly unhappy with the 20% gratuity charge added to their bill, as most restaurants add the tip when the party’s over a certain number of people.
Most everyone walked out amicably. However, one woman was caught on camera threatening to shoot restaurant staff members.
There was no initial retaliation, however, the group seemed to have gotten away with dining and dashing, as a video of the incident shows zero police involvement.
Those who have seen the viral moment on TikTok have commented on the dine and dash story, saying, “And people wonder why servers hate waiting on certain tables. It’s because they know.”
It’s printed on every page of their menu - “Parties of 8+ are subject to 20% gratuity”. They also charge 4% to use a credit card, rather than eat the CC fee themselves.

Unless they’ve been living in a cave for the past couple decades, I can’t see anyone not knowing that this is an industry standard practice in the USA.
Personally, I don’t like the practice, but talk to a restaurant owner. Large parties are a burden. They tend to stay almost twice as long as they typical customer, taking up money making seats. They are much more demanding of staff, require more attention, and are loud. There is always at least 1 person who can’t be satisfied, no matter what amends are made.
They could have used the dead fellow’s credit card.
Stiff him with the bill?
Looks like most of them paid.
Is it them again, Yogi?

It is kinda like how they train lab rats.
If you press the white button you get cheese.
If you press the black button you get an electric shock.
Eventually even the dumbest mouse figures it out...and then they call them racist!
;-)
From the article: most restaurants add the tip when the party’s over a certain number of people.
And that number is usually much lower than 20.
The way I read the linked story is that 18/20 of the people paid their part of the bill. That leaves two cheapskates who didn’t pay.
Actually, the way to treat these large groups I think is to ask for a credit card up front and process it for a dollar like some companies do (e.g., for gas). Skip out on the bill? Run the card and charge it, along with the gratuity.
The original source that the linked story is based on (a tiktoc video) says only 2 people paid their part.
Lousy reporting I guess.
Par for the course these days.
Bingo
So two persons did not bother to pay. Not as bad.
According to the tiktok video only 2 paid and 18 didn’t. The article itself says the opposite. Modern journalism. Or just another semiliterate blogger pretending to be an actual reporter. Not that those are much better. At least sometimes there is an editor to catch the worst inconsistencies.
Were they wearing MAGA hats?
Dare I look?
LOL!
Q: how do keep a canoe from Tipping?
A: you paint it black.
>Not only that, but one woman threatened to shoot a restaurant staff member.<
Let me guess!
Is there any skin color involved?
