WOW! This guy has 72 million coming his way. But I am guessing that he only gets this sum if he does not coach elsewhere. That he has a non-compete contract. I would collect this effort free money and find another career. Perhaps teaching athletics in some way, physical education, at the college level. Or the high school level.

Perhaps teaching in a college black studies department. He knows them well, being in football for so long.

Texas A&M University has money to burn. With their>>>>
Kyle Field Stadium —— capacity of 102,733

Wiki:
Kyle Field is the American football stadium located on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, United States. It has been the home to the Texas A&M Aggies football team in rudimentary form since 1904, and as a permanent concrete stadium since 1927.[12] The seating capacity of 102,733 in 2021 makes it the largest in the Southeastern Conference and the fourth-largest stadium in the NCAA, the fourth-largest stadium in the United States, and the sixth-largest non-racing stadium in the world and the largest in Texas.

“Billy Napier next?”

I don’t follow football, so I never heard of him. Or Jimbo Fisher/ But 72 million in free money gets my attention. Especially with the awful economy for most Americans.

Plus Jimbo will get the 72 million over some 7 or so years. Which will help with his tax bite. For his taxes, he should invest in some money losing Texas oil wells.

Thing is, with the Transfer Portal and NILs, the game has completely changed.

What worked for coaches 3-4 years ago no longer work. Why is it still Alabama and Georgia at the top of the heap? They knew what was coming and planned accordingly.

I don’t follow football either so I’m not familiar with this guy. But it stuns me that a college football coach can make tens of millions of dollars. I had no idea they potentially make so much money doing that job at a major college football school.

Is this guy a bad coach? Why is he being fired? Are they going to have to pay his replacement anywhere near that amount of money plus having to pay this guy not to coach for the next few years? I don’t know the budgets of these college football programs but it sounds like serious money is being spent to pay somebody not to coach.

WIKI

The NCAA transfer portal is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) application, database, and compliance tool launched on October 15, 2018, to manage and facilitate the process for student athletes seeking to transfer between member institutions. The transfer portal permits student athletes to place their name in an online database declaring their desire to transfer. Athletes enter the portal by informing their current school of their desire to transfer; the school then has two business days to enter the athlete’s name in the database. Once an athlete’s name is entered in the database, coaches and staff from other schools are permitted to make contact with the athlete to inquire about their interest in visiting the campus and accepting a scholarship. The transfer portal is intended to bring greater transparency to the transfer process and to enable student athletes to publicize their desire to transfer. The transfer portal is an NCAA-wide database, covering transfers in all three NCAA divisions, although most media coverage of the transfer portal involves its use in the top-level Division I.

“As of July 1, 2021, college athletes are allowed to make money off of their name, image and likeness, or ‘NIL,’ for short. This does not mean that the universities and colleges will pay the athletes. It means that athletes can now make money off of sponsorship deals, jersey sales, etc.”

“Take it as given that anyone who has managed to land a D-I head coach position has worked his ass off to get there - from high school. to lowly assistant positions, to a coordinator, then head coach at a minor FBS school or even D-III. And it has to be win, win, win through all that. Then finally hopefully you get the big job and the big bucks.”
