Having spent significant time in both places - I can say the following: The main language is mandarin chinese as is the majority of population.
Similar to Okinawa and Hawaii there is a native island dialect and population who consider themselves islanders first and do not consider themselves as (insert country here) - Hawaii moreso than Okinawa and Okinawa moreso than Taiwan, though it’s changing.
In addition, due to hand overs throughout the past 200 years between China, Japan, and I think Korea at one point there is a significant mixture in the overall population. While the majority consider themselves Chinese an increasing percentage consider themselves Taiwanese.
That provides some clarity. Thank you, reed. I still don’t know why a Taiwan national would be recruiting students from China to attend universities in America. Q or someone in the know revealed that there were over 230,000 Chinese students in America in 2019, most of them entering the American workforce to steal industrial and technological secrets on behalf of the CCP. When the whole Dong Jingwei defection was happening, I mentioned Jingwei’s name and Dr. Lee pretended not to know who he was. Or maybe he really didn’t know who he was. I can’t be sure of anything any more. I see spies, lies and corruption everywhere. Being awake is a bit sucky.
