Election results: Democrats win big across the nation, Ohio protects abortion access
Author: 13News Now Staff Published: 12:12 AM EST November 8, 2023 Updated: 7:41 AM EST November 8, 2023 Facebook Twitter VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Democrat Michael Feggans has won the election in Virginia's House District 97, unseating Republican Del. Karen Greenhalgh in a race covering parts of Virginia Beach.
As of 12 a.m. Wednesday, Feggans is leading the race, 54% over Greenhalgh's 46%.
The election in District 97 was widely seen as a competitive race that could determine party control of the Virginia House of Delegates, and ultimately, the General Assembly.
Feggans largely campaigned on protecting abortion rights and increasing funding for public schools. He is an Air Force veteran who served in the military for 20 years. He also interned with Democratic U.S. Senator Mark Warner and later became a small tech business owner.
"I am incredibly humbled to have been chosen to represent HD-97 in the Virginia House of Delegates by my neighbors in Virginia Beach," Feggans said in a statement declaring victory Tuesday night. "Virginia Beach has given me so much, whether it be the public education I received at Tallwood High School, or the relationships I have developed with fellow veterans in the military community here. I entered this race because I knew that the best way for me to give back to the community that raised me was by serving them in the General Assembly. To be selected to do just that is a dream come true for this kid from West Kempsville."
Feggans' victory marks a House seat flipping from Republican to Democratic control. Greenhalgh was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2021 and largely campaigned for re-election on addressing the cost of living.
Following the redistricting of Virginia, District 97 covers parts of Virginia Beach, such as the Kempsville, Princess Anne, Larkspur, and Pembroke areas.
The district is comprised of a more than 57% white demographic and about a 20% Black demographic, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.
VPAP reports voters in this district voted mainly for Democratic candidates in recent state and federal elections, except for when the people voted slightly in favor of Gov. Glenn Youngkin in 2021.
Feggans will be sworn in on January 10, when the 2024 session of the Virginia General Assembly convenes.
So you put killing an unborn human on the same footing as buying a Glock?
And it goes against one of the things supposedly the GOP stands for: smaller government. Without that, what is the GOP? A party about nothing.
“It’s the same as people who support the 2nd amendment but own no guns and have no interest in owning any.”
It’s not an equivalence. A 2nd amendment supporter doesn’t support the right to shoot someone simply because they are inconvenient to you.
“So you put killing an unborn human on the same footing as buying a Glock?”
I see that reading comprehension eludes you.
I said that a majority of women do not want the state or the church making that decision for them. For that matter, a majority of men don’t either. In Ohio, over 50% of men voted yes on Prop 1.
“Same thing with gun control and white older men.”
The passion in the support may be the same, what’s being supported is quite different.
As I said to another poster, supporting 2A doesn’t support the right to murder because the victim is inconvenient.
Disclaimer: I’m not rabid anti abortion, but abortion on demand up until the moment of birth is beyond evil.
“It’s not an equivalence. A 2nd amendment supporter doesn’t support the right to shoot someone simply because they are inconvenient to you.”
It’s about who has the right to make that decision. Women reject the notion that the state or the church have decided that women can’t make that decision.
“The selfish single issue woman vote is going to finish the country. The rats absolutely own the issue and there is nothing the GOP can do about it.”
Yep. When they turn out for abortion rights, they vote for all manner of progressive candidates/issues.
The best thing the GOP could do is just drop it. Make it a non issue. There is a reason only Ohio had this on the ballot this year, but next year, 5 or 6 states will have it on the ballot. They’ll turn out, and vote for Biden while they’re at it.
“It’s about who has the right to make that decision. “
Up until the moment of birth? Who has the right to commit murder?
If a baby is viable outside the womb, regardless of your stance on abortion, it is murder to kill it. Convince me otherwise?
“I’m not rabid anti abortion, but abortion on demand up until the moment of birth is beyond evil.”
It’s my understanding that moment-of-birth abortions only happen in rare and life-threatening, for both mother and child, circumstances. So, if you want to present what is a very small percentage of abortions as typical, well, that’s the same argument anti 2nd amendment people make about mass shootings and those are statistically insignificant when compared to the number of responsible gun owners.
It’s like any other ban/prohibition a filthy government tries to impose on the subjects (”assault weapons”, switchblades, liquor, tobacco, gas stoves etc). Americans are a contrarian bunch by nature and bitterly oppose being dictated to. Pound sand government..just leave us the F alone!
The idea that a woman would carry a baby in her womb for nine long months, going through all the hormonal, emotional, and physical changes...not to mention social changes as family, co-workers, and friends express interest in her pregnancy... and then whimsically choose to abort in the ninth month is beyond ludicrous and is a strawman argument. I don’t think that it registers with most woman voters.
It is stunning to me the passion American women seem to have for abortion. Put anything to do with abortion on a ballot and the suburban harpies come out in full force.
***************
I first noticed pro abortion fanaticism prior to the 1992 election, when every girl that was going to college that I knew was voting for Slick Willie because of abortion.
Also, this demographic tend to be pro tranny, pro blm, anti second amendment, etc.
They’re very accepting of weird social movements and the negative ideologies behind those movements.
And l see you cannot respond to simple challenge without resorting to personal insults. You are the one who made an idiotic comparison possessing firearms which is Guaranteed by the Constitution to killing an unborn human.
“Up until the moment of birth? Who has the right to commit murder?”
Here’s an article from 2019 says.
“But late-term abortions are also very rare. In 2015, more than 400,000 abortions took place in the US. Of those, just 5,597 (or 1.3%) happened on or after 21 weeks of pregnancy, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The vast majority (91%) of abortions take place at or before 13 weeks of pregnancy.
Women sometimes choose to have a late-term abortion because the pregnancy poses a threat to their health or there are fetal medical conditions. But some women also have late-term abortions simply because they were unable to access one earlier due to difficulty in getting a referral or insurance problems. Studies have found this is particularly true for poorer women.”
Here’s a link to the entire article.

It seems that late-term abortion hysteria closely models the anti-gun mass shooting hysteria.
““... killing babies wins.”

It is absolutely stunning, how having the ability to make dirty little secrets disappear is to the no morals left!!!!!
Forget about the border, affording food, gasoline, heating oil, medical bills, if you can’t hide your indiscretions.
Sick, sick, sick world!
“And l see you cannot respond to simple challenge without resorting to personal insults. You are the one who made an idiotic comparison possessing firearms which is Guaranteed by the Constitution to killing an unborn human.”
A couple of points. In the states where the abortion referendum has been on the ballot, abortion is now enshrined in their state constitutions.
Secondly, it’s not my fault that your reading comprehension lacks. I never said anything a all about supporting or not supporting anything. I stated why these votes are going the way they are. You decided that by acknowledging the reality of the issue that I was making a statement about my position.
“So, if you want to present what is a very small percentage of abortions as typical, well, that’s the same argument anti 2nd amendment people make about mass shootings and those are statistically insignificant when compared to the number of responsible gun owners.”
I see your point.
“It’s like any other ban/prohibition a filthy government tries to impose on the subjects (”assault weapons”, switchblades, liquor, tobacco, gas stoves etc).”
Exactly right. Why do some people think this is a winning argument?
“The idea that a woman would carry a baby in her womb for nine long months, going through all the hormonal, emotional, and physical changes...not to mention social changes as family, co-workers, and friends express interest in her pregnancy... and then whimsically choose to abort in the ninth month is beyond ludicrous and is a strawman argument. I don’t think that it registers with most woman voters.”
Yes, And it’s disingenuous. Most late-term abortions are medically necessary. To try to present those as typical is misleading at best.
At this point l think the rats have the SOS offices in every swing state. They will get an abortion initiative on every 11/24 ballot. The slim lead Trump may have will be erased. Fixing RvW was the right thing but it looks like it will the final nail.
