We all know about gold and guns. But here are some important provisions that might not occur to most people.
Our national descent into the hellish landscape of climate hysteria, virulent Jew-hatred in the streets, and Marxist-Leninist despotism continues unabated. Due to runaway inflation and the massive federal debt, the dollar’s value has shrunk like a cheap cotton towel washed in hot water. Weekly grocery bills and energy costs have almost doubled since 2021, while real wage growth has declined due to the economic strangulation of progressive bureaucratic regulation and nonexistent congressional oversight.
Combine this bleak economic outlook with our Obama-approved, hate-America-first, failed foreign policy, and you have the likely possibility of a severe economic depression during a time of multiple foreign military engagements. (Stolen elections have predicable consequences!)
How do you prepare for such an awful confluence of events? By accepting and acting upon the real possibility of food, water, energy, and medical supplies shortages in the months ahead. There are plenty of articles, videos, and social media posts that deal with the basics of prepping. Today, I’m suggesting acquiring overlooked items that may greatly aid in the rough times ahead.
1. Real maple syrup. This household staple can be used for barter and for your own food preparation. Sealed in small glass bottles or in those beige plastic jugs, maple syrup requires no refrigeration and can be bartered in small quantities. Most preppers have five-gallon buckets of oatmeal in their pantry, but few include maple syrup (and cinnamon) to flavor their cooked cereal or cookies. Maple syrup will always be in high demand.
2. 4” PVC pipe with assorted end caps, oxygen-absorbers, and desiccant packs. Many Americans will want to protect and hide small high-value items such as pocket pistols, ammo, thumb drives, hard drives, family documents, passports...

An alternative to maple syrup is honey which will crystalize for long-term storage ;
raising the temperature, and honey will return to its natural liquid state.
Also, honey has anti-bacterial and anti-viral usages
Yes, honey does crystalize easily.
I have heard, but never tried, that freezing honey works well. It supposedly does not crystalize which surprised me when I heard that.

Avoid Keen - they start falling apart long before the soles wear out.

Put de lime in da coconut and call me in the morning.
I see coffee and tea are on that list. It may be worth looking up and memorizing any caffeine-producing plants that grow wild in your region.
Where I am in Wisconsin, the only natural local caffeine source is cleavers seeds. They would be annoying to collect, but would still be a Godsend to anyone in caffeine withdrawal.
There are other plants that can provide a taste similar to coffee, but they don’t provide the caffeine.
I also recommend growing a few tobacco plants and being familiar with how to cure the leaves. It was something that stood out to me when reading Selco’s experiences. They were literally starving most of the time, but they still made it a priority to have tobacco to smoke. That means it would be highly valuable as a trade item. Bonus if you know how to make a tobacco pipe to sell as well.
Pinetree Seeds has several tobacco varieties they sell, along with a book on how to grow and cure it for smoking. Even if you never use the plant for anything, the flowers smell nice.
“How do you counter the prevailing social chaos and civil turmoil initially promoted by political leaders failing to address our social unrest issues and problems?”
I turn off the TV if National News is coming on, make a PEST of myself with my local and nationally-elected ‘officials’ and I’ll vote for President in Exile Trump for the third time. ;)
Here’s my take on tobacco, FWIW.
Only about 11.5% of the current US population smokes. Realistically, that is far too low of a population group to set anything aside for barter. Moreover, and sorry if this offends, but the facts are that of those 11.5% of smokers most are on the low end of the socio-economic continuum. The reality is in a dire catastrophic scenario, smokers will likely be among the first to go. Save your supply space for things more valuable, whatever one decides those things may be.
That is a great book!
I hope you find it useful.
“Put de lime in da coconut and call me in the morning.”
Ok, it’s morning. I bought a coconut (had to go to 3 different stores) and a bag of limes. I drilled a hole in the coconut and put a lime in.
Now, tell us how to “...dispose of the remains so as to not draw attention ...” when civilization as we know it falls apart and the barbarians unsuccessfully try to take our coconuts and limes.
Condoms will be in demand too. I have some in my stash to use as barter.
I hope I never have to.
Yeah, buddy! LOL.
