I’ve seen a lot of break-ins but this one blew my mind.
Watch this Oakland gas station employee jump when a backhoes bursts through the window & digs at the ATM!
This happened today at W Grand & Market.
Men run in, attach a chain to the ATM & run to a truck waiting outside.
VIDEOS AT LINK..........
A friend of the owner told me “this has to go on the news. It’s like a third world country now…”
Small biz across the city messages me almost daily about break-ins. But I’ve never seen something like this.
The incident took about 3 mins & allegedly caused $70K in damages.
Note: someone messaged my colleague @jrstonelive today saying he knew where the backhoe was stolen from. Waiting on confirmation. JR’s story and interview with the gas station owner is tonight at 11.
PS: I imagine driving and operating a backhoe is quite a specialized skill…
That must have taken a long time to smash that business. Where were the cops?
Oh, it’s Oakland California. Thanks to BLM, there are no cops.
Three minutes from chain to gone................
Anybody can pick up the basics in a few minutes, but it takes quite a few hours to get really good at it. Most operators you'll see aren't all that skillful.
Heavy equipment like backhoes and excavators are all joystick controlled like a video game.
It takes just a few minutes for folks who play video games to figure it out and operate them pretty well.
When my daughter was 12, it took her about 5 minutes to be operating an excavator almost like a pro.
bttt
Key word is almost. I worked in open-pit mines for around 20 years and have seen really good operators as well as pretty good operators, and some who just never did catch on. Some people learn faster, but really good operators don't get that way in five minutes.
Also, there are still quite a few backhoes and other pieces of equipment out there that are controlled with levers rather than by joystick.
It should be very easy to find them.
They wrote their name on the backhoe.
Their name is Deere....
