“A grandmother from New Mexico was shot dead by a Los Cruces police officer who fired upon her as she attempted to speed away in her car, shocking newly-released footage shows. “
That’s not what the headline says!
Knowing nothing about the case and having not looked at the video at all, I’m still going to say: Roid Rage meets Attitude.
Sounds like a drug deal was going on and a jacked up cop losing it.
> she attempted to speed away in her car <
This woman was not a fleeing killer, or anything like that. So it all depends on where that car was headed. If it was speeding towards people, then the shoot might be justified. Otherwise, the cop murdered that woman.
And no, I don’t buy the argument that the woman should have behaved herself, so it’s entirely her fault. Sure, she started things. But her actions did not warrant the death penalty.
Brit writers huh?
Her rear end sat in the car as she illegally fled in the moving car. That is against the law even for a grandmother.
New Mexico state law....
N.M. Stat. § 30-22-1.1

NMS § 30-22-1.1
Laws 2003, ch. 260, § 5.
Amended by 2022, c. 56,s. 27, eff. 5/18/2022.
I still think we should have a national law that says fleeing from the police or resisting arrest gets you 10 years in jail, no parole. Get that law passed and then drill it into everyone’s head. The whole black culture thing of giving the police a hard time and then blaming the police when things go badly should just stop. You gonna give the cops some attitude? That’s 10 years in jail. If we go down that road, a lot fewer people would be shot by the cops.
I'm not saying the cop didn't make mistakes, but she quickly escalated the situation.
First line in the article: "A grandmother from New Mexico was shot dead by a Los Cruces police officer who fired upon her as she attempted to speed away in her car..." I'm guessing it's not poor journalism, but intentional click bait.
45 year old grandmother....
More happened than is being reported.
45 is a bit young for a grandmother !
All the same team.
Teresa Gomez, 45, was killed by officer Felipe Hernandez, an eight year veteran with the force in the early hours of the morning on October 3rd, just before 5am.
The cop had been speaking with Gomez who had parked her car at a housing complex with her friend, identified as Julio Garcia.
A *grandmother* the way it was implied should have been a white haired, 80 something old lady.
Forty five????? By the time she would have hit 80, she would have been a great-great-grandmother.
Seems there is a lot missing from this story. Like details.
45 and a gramdma. Good grief.
My grandma was 42 when she was a grandma but she had a good excuse, her husband went off to fight in wwii on a carrier and she was a war bride at 17 and mom at 18. Didnt know if he was coming back.
Tnis woman is not that.
No need to kill old ladies in this type situation...
Cop will be welcomed by a prison population...
Investigate. Just investigate. Hopefully cop was well trained or solid training will be part of a settlement.
Remember: guilty or not guilty, his mental life is messed up. Two victims here, not equivalently, awaiting investigation.
A 45 year old Grandmother... that’s New Mexico True (tourist bureau slogan).
Garcia -- who should have gotten two in the hat -- is so smug he flashes the paintball gun midway through the administrative search to taunt the LEO, and then later lights a cig -- meanwhile this sullen puta looks like a longtime victim of abuse by HeySuess, when she realizes she has just. had. enough. Forever. You can see it flash over her face before she gets back in the car.
It's the middle of the damn night, HeySuess is going in for trespass, car might be impounded, and she can't be there to begin with...
She knew this officer wouldn't miss. This was suicide-by-cop.
I’m certain EVERYONE here pictured the “grandmother” as a 45 year old gramma, like I did. /s
