He is presumably relying on the seed package identification that this is a zucchini. It could be a hybrid between a zucchini and a snake gourd or something similar that happened in the seed vendors growing plots.

Cucuzza Squash. All my Italian in-laws would compete for the biggest one each year. It’s a Sicilian thing.

we try to fry up the smaller ones...but there’s a terrific recipe somewhere on the internet for double chocolate zucchini bread....of course you can’t taste the zucchini....lol. I made a batch of chicken meatball stew last night, which is delicious and very healthy. I sliced that baby zucchini up into that, making 5 vegetables in it altogether.
