McDonald’s revenue soars as it hikes menu prices: ‘$18 Big Macs’
New York Post ^ | 10/30/23

One branch in Darien, Conn., charged as much as $18 for a Big Mac combo meal, which includes medium fries and a medium soft drink.

Meanwhile, that same Big Mac combo will run hungry patrons $13.69 at a McDonald’s in Times Square.

Shares of McDonald’s closed up 1.7% to $260.15.

Net income rose to $2.3 billion, up from $1.98 billion in the same period last year, and same-store sales in the US increased by 8.1%, again attributed to price hikes.

During an earnings call with investors, CFO Ian Borden confirmed that the company’s US prices did increase in the third quarter.

Though he didn’t specify by how much, Borden said McDonald’s expects to increase the cost of its menu items by just over 10% for the full year — the second consecutive annual 10% price hike.

Meanwhile, many consumers have said that fast food has already gotten so expensive, it’s no longer worth it.

One Reddit user asked in a now-viral thread: “What is no longer worth it because of how expensive it has become?”

The top-rated response: “most fast food.”

“A ‘value meal’ at McDonalds now costs just as much as a meal at a lot of sit-down restaurants like Applebee’s,” one user claimed.

“Remember when McMuffins were $2 for $3?” another user recalled.

The McDonald’s app in New York City, for example, where the “$1 $2 $3” menu doesn’t actually have anything worth $1 or $2.

I can call in a cheeseburger and fries for $12 at a local grill that is far better fair than a $10 MickeyD’s combo. I’m not paying $10 for fast food combo’s anymore. I went to Krystals a few weeks ago after Sunday evening church and ordered three of the little chick sandwiches and it was nearly $10 and I said enough of this, no more.

My wife and I find ourselves eating at home 90% of the time. Our vice is family pizza night on Fridays and then we hunt for the best deal with various pizza joints.

The frozen pizzas at Safeway are quite good and go on fantastic sales periodically. Last night, the Missus and I had a Sausage and Pepperoni with this crust which w as on sale for $2.97! We had about 1/3 of the pizza left over for lunch today. I spent more for one can of "Where's Me Pants" Scotch Ale that went great with the pizza! Total dinner cost for me: $2.65. Can't beat that!

Btw, the artist is the wife of the head brewer and they both own Radio Brewing in Wallace, ID -- great beer!

Apps are the new coupons, really. Between freebies and percentage decreases, if you eat out and there’s an app, use the app. Of course, that does make you part of the barter (your money + your info = their food).

#2 I have several fast food apps on my cell phone since discovering that driving up to the drive thru without pre ordering will cost far more. I have yet to order anything as I can make a hamburger quicker. The apps are there if I decide on a spur of the moment to get something.

You save money as they have deals like 2 items for $5 and a large drink thrown in.
Hamburger, french fries and a drink for $5 at Carl Jr’s.
If you go thru the drive thru without ordering from the app you may end up ordering a hamburger that costs $9! by itself.

You would think they’d start serving hot fries at these prices. Otherwise I think we’ve reached critical mass.

Never eat fast food without a coupon anymore
Sack lunch or sit down once in awhile
Two burritos soft taco and drink right at $17. Never again. Goodbye taco bell

I haven’t used their app, but how/why did using their app cost 30% more?
