One branch in Darien, Conn., charged as much as $18 for a Big Mac combo meal, which includes medium fries and a medium soft drink.
Meanwhile, that same Big Mac combo will run hungry patrons $13.69 at a McDonald’s in Times Square.
Shares of McDonald’s closed up 1.7% to $260.15.
Net income rose to $2.3 billion, up from $1.98 billion in the same period last year, and same-store sales in the US increased by 8.1%, again attributed to price hikes.
During an earnings call with investors, CFO Ian Borden confirmed that the company’s US prices did increase in the third quarter.
Though he didn’t specify by how much, Borden said McDonald’s expects to increase the cost of its menu items by just over 10% for the full year — the second consecutive annual 10% price hike.
Meanwhile, many consumers have said that fast food has already gotten so expensive, it’s no longer worth it.
One Reddit user asked in a now-viral thread: “What is no longer worth it because of how expensive it has become?”
The top-rated response: “most fast food.”
“A ‘value meal’ at McDonalds now costs just as much as a meal at a lot of sit-down restaurants like Applebee’s,” one user claimed.
“Remember when McMuffins were $2 for $3?” another user recalled.
The McDonald’s app in New York City, for example, where the “$1 $2 $3” menu doesn’t actually have anything worth $1 or $2.

Cheeseburger and THREE small fries for eighty-five cents when I was in my late teens...
$11.24. Burger King. Whopper w/cheese + medium coke. Northern Calif. Yesterday.
“We would have to calculate, adjusted for inflation, what those prices from 1964 would be nowadays.”
40 cents in 1964 was .4 ounces of silver.
Silver today is $23.14 per ounce.
$23.14 x .4 = $9.26
The average price of a Big Mac in CT was $6.09 in July

So inflation is actually ahead of the normal price curve.
Thanks to Joe Biden and the Democrats.
Slowly killing off ALL that was good in America. Disneyland, Big Mack, What happens when all those $20 and Hour jobs vanish when the stores close? Well, there is always Food trucks.
I ate at Red Lobster last month for a comparable price.
Big Macs are crap. The only edible burger at McD’s currently is their quarter pounder which now has a different patty than everythimg else.
They have some acceptable breakfast sandwiches if the workers actually make them right. And their fries are good if very fresh.
Otherwise, trash. 18 dollars for a big Mac is laughable.
To understand the difference, it'd like looking at how much weight Cheryl Tiegs might have gained over the decades and assuming my ex-wife gained only that much.
Went to Burger King recently after many years (6-7?) certainly pre-covid
$5 dollar Whopper meal.
*********
Burger King has gone sharply woke.
If you handed a Mc Donald's cashier two 1964 silver quarters, that cashier would count them as being worth 50 cents, and would want quite a bit more money from you for that Big Mac combo meal.
Alaska got its first McD in 1972 and I was able to get a hamburger, fries, drink and apple pie for exactly one dollar.
is that true?....if you don’t use the app it costs you more?

Domino’s, near me: Order in store one “large” pepperoni $13
Use app $6.99. Have it delivered to my house 3 blocks away $16 plus tip.
Big Mac = Toadburgers.
Fast food slop joints are a 100% ripoff.
The only downside is you actually have to eat Burger King’s food.
“In 1974 a cheeseburger value meal was $2.”
Must have been a franchise thing. The first value meals nationally by McDonalds were called Happy Meals and were brought out in 1979. Their traditional value meal didn’t come out until 2002, 12 years after Taco Bell and 13 years after Wendy’s coined the phrase “Dollar Value Menu” in 1989. A lot of franchises were trying to corner the market so it just shows how cheap the meals were when they could afford to dip prices at high volume.

I think they shrink the sizes as well!
Right - I think I remember when you stood outside to order and ate in your car - there was no inside dining area. Late 50’s I guess
Yes and gas was about 25 cents or less $10.00 made a good Saturday night.
Movie included
The app has deals on it, buy a big mac get one for 29 cents, or free fries with a sandwich etc. you can use one deal per order, but if its just you it can cut your cost. I got a big mac and 10 pc nuggets for 5.29 with tax 2 weeks ago. I had left overs, not terrible and i usually carry my own drink, so I save there as well.
