They attend the same classes with access to the same programs, and even come from the same families. But girls consistently are outperforming boys, graduating at higher rates at public high schools around the country.
The gap between them is wide, often as wide as the achievement gap between students from affluent and low-income families, a problem that officials have tracked closely for years. But the reasons why boys are falling short are not as clear.
Interviews with students, educators and researchers point to several factors. Men generally can earn the same wages as women with less education. But boys also are more likely to face suspensions or other discipline knocking them off track, and they don’t pursue help as often when they face mental health challenges.
Some boys are fine when they first drop out, landing jobs providing steady incomes. But over the long term, lacking a high school degree can hold men back. Studies show young men who drop out of high school earn less over their lifetimes and are more likely to end up in jail. …

What’s not?
Respectful and attentive to the topic being presented. Actively engaged in the conversation. Not cowering silently at the desk awaiting the next tongue lashing from the harpy acting as the teacher.
Absolutely. Act like a weak pansy and expect to be treated as less than a beta male. There is a definite social pecking order for boys. Act weak and you end up losing lots of "social" points.
Do you use 3D printing to make injection molds?
Sl, after having read the majority of the thread, it seems like a strong male in the house and ‘barefoot, pregnant, stupid, and in the kitchen...and go make me a sammich’ is the way to go for females?
They could always find jobs at NPR.
fathers have got to do better in inspiring their male children....
maybe stop the damn video games and the playboy mags and make the kid do chores and study....and make the kid work for his car and the insurance...
Girls tend to sit still in class. Most boys need to move around. When I was raising boys, I put them all into adventurous programs like scouts. At the time, girls were offered many girls-only opportunities, while boys had fewer boys-only options. And now, today, do any boy-centered programs exist?
Actually, you can. This is from a link from the article you posted (bold emphasis added by me):
General contractor license requirements in Connecticut
There are no education or training requirements to earn a general contractor license. Connecticut's DCP will consider your professional references and current and past construction projects when reviewing your application, but there are no specific work experience requirements for a major contractor license.
So the red herring is “education or training requirements”, as in formal state-supervised training; informal training can indeed comprise the learning of a trade. This is what you omitted:
In too many states you don’t have to ‘learn a trade’. You can just buy a contractors license and go at it. Truth.
How to get a Connecticut general contractor licenseNo inexperienced laborer is going to get licensed, under that system at least. There would be at least some way to weed out the “Mickey Mouse” construction types.
To get your major contractor license, you must submit a Connecticut general contractor license application to the DCP’s License Services Division. Be sure to complete the following steps as you fill out the application.
Include reference letters
You must submit five reference letters with your application:Obtain insurance
- One credit reference letter from an industry contact, such as a supplier or subcontractor
- One credit reference letter from a financial institution
- Three reference letters from people familiar with your knowledge, skills and abilities as a general contractor
You’ll need to submit evidence that you have obtained general liability insurance to cover your work.
List current and past work
You must submit information about any projects currently in progress as well as those completed in the past five years. Include details like the name, address, owner and architect or engineer for each project, the contractor amount, and the actual or estimated completion date.
Register your business
You must submit a certificate that proves that you’ve registered your contracting business with the Connecticut Secretary of State. The certificate demonstrating the business’s legal existence must be less than 30 days old.
Have your application notarized
The application includes an affidavit that the applicant and a Notary Public or Justice of the Peace must sign.
Pay the application fee
You must submit a check or money order for $500 with your license application. This payment is nonrefundable and should be made payable to “Treasurer, State of Connecticut.”
The bell curve. That’s one of the major criticisms of it.
Lots of bell curves. I’m referring to IQ.
That’s one I don’t bother with too much due to eugenicists being fond of it. It was also coincidental with the intrusion of psychology into the military.
But you don’t doubt that some people are more intelligent than others, do you?
Major contractor. A contractor engaged in major construction, structural repair/alteration or demolition projects.
Home improvement contractor. A contractor who makes a permanent change to a residential property.
New home construction contractor. A contractor who builds a new home prior to occupancy.
What you listed were the requirements for a Major Contractor. These are contractors that do major projects (e.g. building an apartment building etc). The requirements for the other two categories are significantly less, and people get these licenses without experience - so they can get contractors rates at lumberyards, Home Depot, etc. Major Contractors are generally not the people who are going to be working on your house.
This is word for word from the Connecticut contractors handbook:
APPENDIX C
NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR REGISTRATION NOTICE
A CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION AS A NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR DOES NOT REPRESENT IN ANY MANNER THAT THE CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER PROTECTION ENDORSES THE QUALITY OF THE CONTRACTOR’S NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION WORK OR THE CONTRACTOR’S COMPETENCY TO ENGAGE IN NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION
Doesn't inspire confidence in the consumer..
Blah blah blah. We know the truth is, that white males HAVE TO follow certain paths. Women, gender pretenders and blacks take the best jobs. The men are left fighting with immigrants for the work men are best designed to do, build and maintain. Leadership is left for the queer/fem/genderpretenders, somthing else that men excel at.
There is a lot of that.
