It seemed like the entire article was saying he 'failed' etc. while the bullet point said he plans to run again. I think they hoped readers would think it was over. That article is supposedly a portion of another article on WAPO. That was was more intensely contemptuous and ridiculing of Republicans etc. A real hit piece, for those who want more.
Or... we could go 15 ballots like McCarthy did and maybe get a conservative speaker!

Following the debacle of the past two weeks, I agree.
Matt Gaetz has demonstrated that it’s quite easy to be a bomb thrower. It’s an entirely different thing to throw yourself into the hard work of legislating and winning over support for your positions.
Gaetz booted McCarthy, but had no backup plan on what do next. Creating this clown show could very well cost the GOP the House majority in 2024.
For all the new Matt Gaetz fan club members on FR, please recall that when it was time to get behind a candidate in the 2016 GOP primaries, Gaetz enthusiastically endorsed that staunch conservative - Jeb Bush!
Bottom line - Gaetz is under an Ethics investigation in the House, and was miffed that McCarthy refused to intervene and set it aside. Not my kind of leader.
Time to play hard ball with these traitorous scum!!!!
