Remember it well as a radio news director in Watsonville.

The Marina got trashed, but our area was unaffected, so we had a two-day block party as we stayed out of the way of all the emergency vehicles constantly going back and forth.
I had been in the Greenpeace store in Santa Cruz just the previous day... it was a complete wipe, along with many of the old brick buildings that lined the mall back then.
They had a 4.1 quake near Sacramento today.
I was about ten miles from the epicenter.
Quite a time.
A few minutes after the quake I put a dvd in the recorder and captured live broadcast all evening - going through old dvds I tossed it (along with hundreds of recorded dvds) today.
I was in Marina, CA. Shook pretty well.
If it hadn’t been for the World Series game, untold hundreds of people would have been driving on the Cypress freeway and would have been caught in the collapse. Fortunately, everybody left work early, to catch the game!
I was still at work, in Mtn View. In the basement. It was an older building, strengthened against nuke attack, so wasn’t too worried about the building.
However, I was in a high security area, and the old drop ceiling was 2 inches of concrete suspended by wires. THAT had me diving under my desk.
Yeah, my fiancé and I were driving south on 101 passing the San Jose Airport when it hit. It felt like all four tires blew out simultaneously.
I was wondering what happened when I saw the sign pylons swing back and forth, about 7 feet! All the time, she was yelling at me to watch my driving.
When we got to my house, I called my parents in Las Cruces, NM to tell them we were okay. They didn’t know about it…turned on the TV…and I heard my Dad yell, “The Bay Bridge Collapsed!”.
After that call, I communed with a large bottle of Jim Beam!
For those of us who are students of Biblical prophecy study, we are not surprised at the rise of earthquake intensity and severity.
In fact we expect it to increase even more so as we see that day approaching.
I remember the network coverage--some of the anchors were not aware that Oakland was on the other side of the Bay from San Francisco.
There was one man who was in a car that got crushed by a level of the freeway on the East Bay side of the Bay. That got a lot of attention until they finally got him out many days later and everyone celebrated. I think he died a few days after that but that got no attention.
I was on a bus heading south on Highway 101 in Marin County. Didn’t feel a thing. Can’t believe it has been 34 years since then.
I was there in Santa Clara.
Dove under my desk and quietly, calmly asked myself if I was going to die.
I saw the shockwave in the concrete floor.
I was in HR for a high tech company in Oregon. I was trying to hire a SW Engineer gal out of the Bay area. I never heard from her again. Left messages, heard nothing. I fear she died.
