On this day in 1989, the 6.9 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake hit the San Francisco Bay Area, killing 63 people, injuring more than 3,700 and causing more than $6 billion in damage.

The Bay Area was brimming with excitement Oct. 17, as the San Francisco Giants were set to host the Oakland A’s in Game 3 of the World Series. The game was scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., but at 5:04, the earthquake hit.

San Francisco’s Candlestick Park withstood the shaking from the quake, which lasted about 15 seconds, but other parts of the Bay Area weren’t as lucky.

Third game of the World Series was supposed to be played on October 17. This year the first game won't be played until October 27.

I remember the network coverage--some of the anchors were not aware that Oakland was on the other side of the Bay from San Francisco.

There was one man who was in a car that got crushed by a level of the freeway on the East Bay side of the Bay. That got a lot of attention until they finally got him out many days later and everyone celebrated. I think he died a few days after that but that got no attention.

I was on a bus heading south on Highway 101 in Marin County. Didn’t feel a thing. Can’t believe it has been 34 years since then.

I was there in Santa Clara.
Dove under my desk and quietly, calmly asked myself if I was going to die.
I saw the shockwave in the concrete floor.

I was in HR for a high tech company in Oregon. I was trying to hire a SW Engineer gal out of the Bay area. I never heard from her again. Left messages, heard nothing. I fear she died.

It absolutely does not contradict The Bible.

A simple study of the earthquake & seismic activity charts from the 19th century thru today shows the exponential increase in these events.

You can add in hurricanes, flooding, volcanic activity, and other “natural phenomena” events.

I’ve been perusing this site for years and I’ve grown numb to the events. It’s a daily occurrence.
