On this day in 1989, the 6.9 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake hit the San Francisco Bay Area, killing 63 people, injuring more than 3,700 and causing more than $6 billion in damage.
The Bay Area was brimming with excitement Oct. 17, as the San Francisco Giants were set to host the Oakland A’s in Game 3 of the World Series. The game was scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., but at 5:04, the earthquake hit.
San Francisco’s Candlestick Park withstood the shaking from the quake, which lasted about 15 seconds, but other parts of the Bay Area weren’t as lucky.

I saw the shockwave in the concrete floor.
I was in HR for a high tech company in Oregon. I was trying to hire a SW Engineer gal out of the Bay area. I never heard from her again. Left messages, heard nothing. I fear she died.

You can add in hurricanes, flooding, volcanic activity, and other “natural phenomena” events.
I’ve been perusing this site for years and I’ve grown numb to the events. It’s a daily occurrence.
