The suspect in the shooting of a beloved father-of-four in Portland is a futures fund manager with a weighty arrest history - who also jets around the country giving blockchain lectures at conventions.
Geoffrey Edward Hammond, 46, runs Aequantium LLC, claims to be of Australian descent, and also comes from a family of entrepreneurs with a $125million fortune.
For unknown reasons, Hammond also changed his named from Jeffrey Edward Mandalis in recent years, court records show.
He was driving a black Mercedes Benz and stopped in front of the Moxy Hotel in Portland, blocking traffic, last week. After getting into a spat with Ryan Martin, he allegedly opened fire at him, and said: 'You are lucky I didn't shoot you in the head.'
Hammond has been arrested for second-degree murder and attempted murder.
During the daylight shooting last week in Portland, Hammond was trying to get his gun to work - to shoot Martin for a second time - for a whole minute, while the victim lay in the gutter dying from his wound.
Once he'd killed Martin and injured another bystander who snapped him pointing the gun at range, Hammond slowly drove away from the scene, the affidavit said.
The alleged killer thought he was being stalked and showed 'little to no remorse for his actions' during police interviews, records seen by DailyMail.com show.
And he admitted multiple times that he new Ryan Martin was not armed.
In May 2023, Hammond filed for bankruptcy owing around $34,000 in credit card debt and unemployed after his finance company closed.
Hammond owns an $890,000 home in Portland's West Hills, a 2020 Mercedes SUV and four firearms according to court records.
He has a total of 18 criminal arrests on his record- spanning from 1994 to 2021, across four different states.

Seems like every single murder vic these days was “beloved.”
Don’t go getting into arguments or road rage with strangers. You never know what sort of unhinged idiot you are dealing with.
And if you are going to get into an argument... Make sure that you have more firepower than they do. That always helps out.
Was this written by an AI program whose first language is not English?
What an absolute disgrace. A famiiy destroyed by a lown-down hustler.
Another case where domestic surveillance spun up some guy who was off, and the guy ended up snapping.
“Hammond’s admissions were delivered with little remorse, the affidavit says. The businessman told officers he believed he was being stalked by groups of people.”
His company was trying to use blockchain for international settlements, so he was a threat to the currency system, however small the chances he would succeed. That would bring in the surveillance, which would freak out a normal person.
Born on third base, and thought he’d hit a triple. Magical thinking about his financial process, and just threw money away on these schemes. Held himself out as an expert, while just being a loser.
That’s a bingo!
Is that how you say it? "That's a bingo"?
