College football Week 7 winners and losers: How would a 12-team playoff look this season with parity abound?

Is it too late to expand the College Football Playoff to 12 teams for the 2023 season?

As we’re now halfway through the final season of the four-team format, it’s becoming very clear that the playoff is expanding a year too late. There are at least 10 teams who look capable of winning the national title through the first seven weeks of the season. If there were a 12-team playoff this season, here’s what the field would look like at the moment, in our opinion. The four quarterfinal games would be exceptional.

Washington v. Oregon delivered. The Vegas odds makers called it with Washington -3. One great thing about this season is many of the big matchups have delivered exciting games.

USC is an absolute fraud. The Domers embarrassed them. Notre Dame scored 49 points on 48 offensive plays. Caleb Williams will not be a repeat Heisman.

West Texas Intermediate crude is back close to $90 per barrel. Is that high enough for the Aggie alumni to pony up the close to $80 MM to fire Jimbo?

The Ducks have the dumbest coach in college football. Punt the ball and you win 95% of the time.

PSU has scored a TD in 36 straight quarters, and is allowing nothing on Defense. 11 straight wins by 14+. Gonna be an interesting Saturday in Columbus.

I hope Manny Diaz really likes it in Happy Valley, because he’s doing a hell of a job.

Colorado beating Stanford 29-0 in the first half, then losing 46-43 in double overtime?! What were they doing in the locker room at halftime? Stanford dropped a dime on Prime.

I can’t see anyway Ohio State wins Saturday. The QB stinks, the o-line has not played well, Penn State’s oline will annihilate the interior defensive line of the Buckeyes and Ryan Day is garbage.

For the life of me i can’t understand why its a 12 noon game. The B10 broadcast schedule has been a disaster this year with ABC/ESPN out of the picture.

Yeah - the 3 biggest games left in the conference (PSU @ OSU, UM @ PSU, and OSU/UM), all are noon games.

Fox/NBC needs to figure this out by next season. No one wants to see Iowa get shut out in the Whiteout.

As for tOSU, they will be favored by 5 or 6.

Gutsy win for the Gators yesterday. Might be the last win for awhile, the rest of the schedule is brutal, outside of Arkansas.

I wonder how the B1G feels about adding USC now. Oh well...

Really? I am a Huskies fan, but I thought the Ducks out coached the Huskies yesterday. I thought the Ducks generally outplayed the Huskies, especially throughout the 2nd half. I thought it was a miracle that the Huskies won. A miracle courtesy of Husky stadium. If that game had been played in Eugene, the Huskies would have been slaughtered.

‘No one wants to see Iowa get shut out in the Whiteout.’

do you PSU fans seriously think the color of the fan’s shirts intimidates a quality opponent...?

Outcoached by passing up 2 FGs and not punting with less than 2 minutes left and no timeouts. No coach in America would have done that. Especially, when our D was dominating you. He loves his 4th down and handed you the game on a silver platter.

Night games are more intimidating in big time games (anywhere, actually). You know this.

Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers, Michigan State, Utah, WVU, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, UMass are the last 11 opponents. PSU scheduled DE and UMass obviously. The conference scheduled the rest obviously.

I was very happy to see the Gators win last night. They need to be able to win on the road, and not just at The Swamp.

Washington is a legit Playoff team. Soon the teams ahead of them will be knocking each other off, so that should clear the path for them.

Your former coach is even dumber.

An easy win, when USC travels to especially the upper midwest for any game after... well, mid-October or so.

Coaches can turn up the AC in the practice facility, they can lecture and attempt to inspire, but they can't simulate the real thing. For a 20-yo kid who's never been north of San Francisco it's a big deal.

Especially with USC presently having a glass jaw on defense (one is actually well-acquainted with this fact), they're good for a loss in every tight game; the margin of error goes to the other team. Throw in the cold weather as a factor and that's good for at least another loss or two each season. And... question, in what state does the B1G play their conference championship game? Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania... in December?

PSU is averaging 44.3 ppg, and giving up 8.0 ppg. Drew Allar has zero career INT’s over 2 seasons.

ND should join the B1G before Clemson and FSU take the spots. I’d love to see it. Maybe even re-start a wrestling program (which they should have anyway) while they’re at it.

BTW - the 11 straight wins by 14+ is the longest such streak in the B1G in over 100 years.
