The inferno was caused by a car fire, London Luton airport said in a statement
All flights have been suspended at Luton airport as a huge fire tears through a terminal car park.
Access to the airport has been restricted by the fire at Terminal 2 short stay, with people warned not to travel to get their flights.
The inferno was caused by a car fire, the airport said in a statement, and emergency services are in attendance.
Passengers have claimed online that boarded flights on the tarmac are being disembarked and that they have been told the airport has closed.
Eyewitness Molly Bullard described 'scary scenes' as the short stay was 'exploding into flames'.
She said on X: 'There is no transport in or out of Luton Airport. Passengers are being evacuated to walk on the footpath via the road underpass. All airport buses and vehicles are trapped by road blocks.'
Footage shows vicious fires whipped up by the wind, which appear to have covered much of the roof of the multi-storey structure.
The airport wrote on X: 'Emergency services are currently responding to a car fire in Terminal Car Park 2, restricting access to the airport.'

“Caused by Climate Change! Fer sure!”
Very obviously it is climate change.

An EV ???
The charging stations in Washington DC are in subterranean parking garages several levels down. Probably impossible to extinguish.
Either that or racism. Thake your pick they are interchangeable.
I have read of some airports prohibiting certain EVs from their garages, but they really should consider banning all of them...before something really bad happens.
It’s not a plane attack. It could be a small “lone wolf” muzzie attack, like running over pedestrians on the sidewalk.
I honestly can’t think of a time when a gasoline powered car spontaneously burst into flames while sitting unattended. I’ve never seen one reported. The only cars I’ve seen burning were running or someone was trying to get one running.
As Fire Fighter for 35 years seen it happen numerous times
Short in electrical wiring - with all the electrical gadgets, heated seats, electric seat adjustment, electric mirror, etc
Leak in fuel lines dripping gas on hot engine
Numerous reasons cars catch fire
Local reporting...
The fire didn’t start in the wiring harness of an old Fiat, I bet.
The number of times that happens with the car parked and ignition switched off is vanishingly small.
Leak in fuel lines dripping gas on hot engine
And that would happen with a vehicle sitting overnight in a car park how?
I don't believe you were a firefighter or you wouldn't make such dumb comments.
EV fanatics will say anything.
Yikes! This (maybe) EV generated fire really spread and created even more damage. Luton Airport car park collapses:
Thanks for the update!
Both.
EV. If this were terrorism they would have started the fire at ground level one so it would spread upward.
I’ll second what njslim said. Went to a bunch of them over the years. Most fun is a full fuel tank that warms up in a garage causing the fuel to expand and overflow. Then the pilot light on the water lights the whole mess off.
