Some Open and Raw Reflections on the Murderous Attack on Israel

As news was breaking on Saturday and we were leaning about the atrocities that were taking place in Israel, I immediately wrote an article. But even as I was writing, the news kept getting worse. How could this be happening? It turns out that things were far worse than we could have imagined. Here are some open, honest, raw reflections on the last 48 hours.

The problem in Israel was caused by the increasingly lax attitudes of the Israeli public in relation to military preparation: earlier in its history, Israel trained every single citizen - except for the Hasidim - in the use of arms and small unit tactics. Nearly every Israeli citizen carried or had access to firearms and ammunition.

As the Arab attacks waned and seemed limited to the local Intifada/Hezbollah rocket attacks, ordinary Israelis dropped out, accepted arms restrictions, started partying.

When I was in Israel in 1989, I was struck by noticing that the IDF troops I saw were more undisciplined and loose than I expected and carelessly slung their weapons and wore gold jewelry. Troops that expect to be in combat don't wear gold jewelry.

Hamas and Hezbollah and Iran have been watching and it was only a matter of time.

Complacent, secular Israelis were rock ‘n rolling in the desert with degenerate foreigners when the enemy came for them. In Biblical times, the enemy swooped in on camels. This time, they arrived on hand gliders and trucks.
