October 6, a second massacre by Confederate Capt. William Quantrill's raiders in Kansas, this time at Baxter Springs.
Heavily outnumbered Union escort column was attacked by Quantrill's Raiders, then massacred as they attempted to surrender.

Deaths totaled 131, including 10 civilians.
