A terrified electric car driver has revealed he was kidnapped by his runaway £30,000 MG ZS EV after the vehicle suffered a 'catastrophic malfunction' in a bizarre case which forced him to dodge red lights and roundabouts before calling police to ram it into their van.
Brian Morrison, 53, claims he was heading home from work at around 10pm on Sunday when his new Chinese-made fully electric car began driving itself at 30mph.
Unable to use the brakes, the Glaswegian - who runs his own social enterprise - called police who stopped the vehicle by allowing it to slowly crash into their van.

Mr Morrison said: 'I realised something was wrong when I was coming up to a roundabout and went to slow down but it failed to do so. Then I heard a loud grinding noise that sounded like brake pads. Because it was such a new car I knew it couldn't be a problem with them.
'I managed to get around the roundabout going at about 30mph, and then had a long road ahead of me, so I assumed it would stop without me accelerating but it didn't.
'I have mobility issues, so I couldn't even jump out - I was completely trapped inside the car going at 30mph.
'It might not sound like it is very fast, but when you have no control over the speed and you're completely stuck inside it's terrifying.'

'The car was just running away on its own, there was nothing I could do,' he said.
'When I dialled 999, they sent police to help and put some engineers on the line to try and solve the problem, and they were asking if it was a self-driving car.
'It was the first time that the call handlers had experienced the issue

Agreed. And don't overlook what BobL pointed out (before I did LOL). The alleged victim runs his own "social enterprise". Those people try to make money by being attention seeking do-gooders used to making up a cause with no substance to support it. To them it's never about the reality. It's about the story.
Not Sum Ting Wong?
We all know that even the best computers never do get a "glitch" and just decide to do nothing or worse. Never happens does it? Of course it does. Who thinks self-driving anything will ever do any better? Not me. Not trusting them
“We are in control. We control the horizontal. We control the vertical. We control the sound.

I told you so!!!!
Ah, “progress”...
I have a new tractor, a Case IH 50A. It has a computer and an electric foot and hand throttle. Every now and again it will suddenly go to idle and stay there. I have to shut it down and restart it then it goes again until the next time.

A couple of decades ago, I picked up rental car... unless I’m mistaken, it was a Olds Intrigue. Anyway, about a mile from the rental outlet, I was turning left at a set of lights. Right in the middle of the intersection, it completely conked out. Had to put it in park but it did restart and I continued on. I of course thought that was weird and so tried it again... sure enough, the next left turn it did again. At this point, I took it to an empty parking lot and unless I basically kept my foot almost right off the gas, it would conk out... and the more I tried to accelerate while turning left, the more quickly it would conk. It behaved completely normal when going straight or turning right.
Needless to say, the car was taken right back but imagine trying to explain that as the reason for returning it. To this day, I don’t think I’ve heard of someone else experiencing that.
