It would be hilarious but no way could he get 218 votes needed. But what a shame up in DC. I wish it could happen.

Between his legal issues and his Presidential campaign he’s quite busy at the moment.

That’s not exactly a good recipe for good government though. You may get a few years of a speaker you like enabling an agenda you like, then you get a boatload of years with a speaker you hate.

No wonder American politics is so polarised.

Over here, I’ve seen nearly fifty years of speakers and maybe 44 of those years, the Speaker acted independent of (if not “above”) the knockabout of party politics.

The only 6 years where I’d say we nearly had an American setup was when Bercow turned into a partisan speaker.

Like I said, Frederick Muhlenberg (American speaker, late 18th Century) played it straight down the middle, rather like most British Speakers do.

As a Constitutionalist I would actually like Speaker Trump to go back to the very roots of how the role was originally constituted. His independence of the Washington machine makes him uniquely qualified to sit “outside of party politics”.

The RINOs would never vote him in. But it would be sweet.

Yes. At least nominate him, even if he stands a snowball’s chance in hell of getting it.

The fallout would be hilarious to behold.

No, but he should exert his influence as party leader to install a MAGA person in that slot.

I could just imagine Trump being nominated as Speaker of the House, then impeachments against both Biden and Harris. Gosh, imagine the exploding heads of Democrats all across the nation and exploding heads of liberals all across the world.

I’ll vote “No” on President Trump being nominated as Speaker of The House. Not that I wouldn’t like to see him as Speaker, and not that I don’t it would be good to have him as Speaker, but because there are too many Uniparty swamp creatures in the GOP who would vote against him, and then the media would spin it as a “humiliating loss.”

I can see heads exploding, but not all 218 Republicans will vote for him.

And of course the Rat party won’t vote for him, they think Trump is the antichrist.

I put the tally at 34 YES and 17 NO, though there is some judgement involved depending on whether or not approval of the concept is implied in the response where no explicit y/n was given.
