Former New England Patriot Russ Francis and an expert on aviation safety were killed in a plane crash Sunday at Lake Placid Airport.
The Adirondack Enterprise reported Francis, who recently purchased the Lake Placid Airways scenic tour business, was one of the two people on board the plane when it crashed at 4:09 p.m. The Patriots confirmed his death Monday.

He went into professional wrestling when he retired from the NFL
I’m guessing the died suddenly wackos will be along soon.
He came to SF after the super bowl victory and didn’t fit in. His ego. You would think he’d be happy to come to a strong team. He was into parachuting and flying biplanes in Hawaii. Full life and 70 is not too early for him to go.
Lived life on the edge it’s safe to say. So did Pat Tillman and those 4 from Sole Survivor. They died young. So did John Denver.
So what am I saying? These people didn’t live for those that loved them. I think there’s an element of selfishness but what do I know?
Don’t forget JFK Jr., America’s crown prince.
RIP
And the straight-thinking died suddenly folks as well.
BTW - what about that bullcrap with Nobel prize for collaborating on the clot-shot?
(Am I going to get a visit from the secret police over my comment?)
Cheers to ALL
First RIP Russ, and yes he did die suddenly, from either a mechanical failure or pilot error, it was not from the vax.
In 2000 [Russ] Francis challenged long-time Democratic incumbent, Patsy Mink for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district. Running as a Republican, Francis was defeated, winning 35.97% of the vote to Mink's 61.59%. Mink was elected posthumously, having died one week after she had won the 2002 primary election, too late for her name to be removed from the general election ballot. Her vacant seat was filled by Ed Case after a special election on January 4, 2003.

Well actually, people usually do die suddenly when the plane you happen to be flying in makes impact with the ground!
Kilt by a Cessna...
... and the football player is the one that’s highlighted in the headline.
“After being waived by the 49ers during the 1987 season, Francis signed with his old team, the Patriots, before the season’s final game.[13] His second tenure in New England was less successful than his first, however, and he played just one more season. Francis spent 1989 injured before being waived[14] and then retired.”
Wikipedia reference. As I remember Francis was coming off the disabled list and was informed he’d be 2nd string behind John Frank. Instead of being 2nd string on a Super Bowl contender he choose to fly across the country and play for a lousy New England team. Missed out on 2 playoff appearances. He was not into winning.
Pat Tillman left a good football career after 9-11 to join the Army and died in that service, not really what I would call selfish.
“...who recently purchased the Lake Placid Airways scenic tour business...”
I’m thinking that’s NOT going to be good for business.
He’s no longer an “ expert on aviation safety” Jim
I read Pat Tillman’s story. He would jump off cliffs barely avoiding the rocks on the way down. Then there was the beating up mistakenly of someone while in HS. Testosterone laden fella.
He put his life into the hands of incompetents and paid the price. The guy who killed him was 30 feet(or yards) away. 18 year-old army ranger.
As for Francis I’d call him a poor mans Rick Barry. Left the Warriors twice. They should have dumped him after he led the team to the championship(74-75). 1976 comes along, they keep winning and he quits on the team in the playoffs when his teammates wouldn’t come to his aid in a fight. A very unpopular teammate.
Sole Survivor? You mean Lone Survivor?
“I’m guessing the died suddenly wackos will be along soon.”
The article said he “died Sunday” not suddenly.
