NCIS veteran David McCallum, also known for his Emmy-nominated role in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., died peacefully this morning of natural causes at New York Presbyterian Hospital, surrounded by family. He was 90, having celebrated his birthday less than a week ago.
A fan favorite, McCallum was the last remaining original cast member on CBS’ NCIS, in which he played Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard, an eccentric but highly efficient investigator with a knack for psychological profiling, for two decades.

Memory Eternal!
Loved him on NCIS! He developed the character so beautifully over the years.
Gibbs: "Illya Kuryakin."
One of the agents asked Leroy what “Ducky” was like when he was young. Leroy replied “ Illya Kuryakin.”
Thanks. I missed it because I didn’t realize he was the actor who had played Illya Kuryakin.
RIP Illya, may God bless...
😆
Gosh! How to make a lady feel old!
My sisters and I never missed an episode of “Man from U.N.C.L.E.” My eldest sister at about age 16 insisted she would grow up to marry a spy just like Illya Kuryakin. She didn’t. But we certainly had fun pretending to be spies and ferreting out information in our household.
Unfortunately for us spies, there was not much to learn. Mom and Dad worked all the time, one sister was seeing a guy that our parents probably wouldn’t approve of, and bills came due and were placed in the mailbox once a month. Although we had high hopes for the neighbor’s son being a double-ought spy, we were disappointed to learn that espionage was not a regular part of the lives of any of our neighbors, and he was just an army grunt.
Many times they’d ask him about his past or connections and he’d say “ I’ve had a friend named...” used his Uncle name.
Wow. He was still alive until just now.
Did he ever remarry after Jill Ireland divorced him?
I remember him from ‘The Man from Uncle’, ‘Invisible Man’ and ‘Sapphire and Steel’
Rest in Peace, Illya...
Rest In Peace, David.
Jill Ireland divorced McCallum and married Charles Bronson.
Pretty interesting answers. Almost everyone is mentioning the Man from Uncle (1960s) rather than whatever tv show is newer. If we were polling, we are all old and on medicare!!!!!!!
Never forgot that episode from one of the great scifi shows of all time and maybe the best opening of any show.
RIP, Ducky. You added so much to NCIS and showed fan and actor alike how acting is more than just reading lines.
He was also the last surviving main cast member of The Great Escape
A delightful character. RIP
