Florida woman found in alligator’s jaws was arrested for trespassing two months ago

The woman whose lifeless body was found clenched between a 14-foot alligator’s jaws was arrested just two months earlier for trespassing on county wetland property.

Sabrina Peckham, 41, was identified by police Saturday as the victim being dragged by the beast in a canal along a residential street in Largo, a small community just four miles south of Clearwater.

The homeless woman was caught by Pinellas County deputies around 6:30 a.m. on July 14 for trespassing onto county wetland just half a mile from where she was found dead Friday, court records show.

Peckman ignored posted signage warning against unlaw entry.

After pleading no contest to the misdemeanor, she was released from the county on Sept. 8 and was ordered to $500.

It is not clear where the transient woman went in the two weeks before she was discovered dead in the waterway... Records show she had a history of run-ins with police dating back to 2014, including multiple charges for trespassing.

Peckman also had multiple drug and theft convictions lodged against her.

...

The area is near the popular Ridgecrest Park, which includes a 5-acre lake known to house alligators.

The gators routinely wander the neighborhood, according to neighbors, but the one killed Friday was one of the biggest some had ever encountered.

Gator tail at BassPro Shops restaurant is really good.

And this woman sounded suicidal; maybe she couldn’t do it herself and let the gator do it instead.

Trump was on to something when he laughingly suggested stalking the Rio Grande with alligators or crocodiles, whichever is more suitably indigenous.

Those gators look as though the cooked meat would be as chewy as a Firestone Snow Tire, with or without the gravy.

Maybe she was, but that’d be a helluva way to go. To me it sounds more like she’s a drug addict, and had no idea what she was doing.

Still…the alligators are a real problem in Florida. I did NOT have to worry about them when I was growing up, even on the several lakes that we lived by. Of course, I think hunting them was legal back then.

“Human interest story?”

It certainly sounds like the alligator was.

You seem to think that a bum getting eaten by an alligator is a bad thing. From the article it looks to me like she was asking for it by trespassing into alligator territory. Alligators gotta eat too.

Trespassing?
Boy Howdy, that property owner is serious about his border security.

I’m just tired of alligators overrunning people and pets. I still value human life, from the preborn to natural death. Yes, she may have been asking for it, but the people who found the alligator with her body inside didn’t ask for this. It must’ve been quite a sight, and one that I’m glad I didn’t witness.

I agree I wouldn’t want to stare at it, but from the article it appears that she was a petty criminal with multiple offenses and society as a whole is better off without her. Junkies trade their humanity for their addiction and as a result are a menace to everyone. A guy who I used to work for had a kid that became a junkie. No matter what they did the kid chose drugs over everything else. After years and hundreds of thousands of dollars on rehab the parents gave up. There wasn’t anything left of him except a hunger for his next fix.

Now if the could just train alligators to eat illegal immigrants

I hear you on the drug addiction problem. It’s horrible.

I have sometimes thought about moving back to Florida for retirement, but I just don’t think I’ll ever get used to seeing alligators roaming the neighborhood. I don’t like seeing coyotes, and they are part of the habitat here. They are far tamer than alligators, and if I see one in my yard, I’m allowed to kill it without getting a license. I think it’s time that Florida have a similar law regarding alligators.

Gator tail is a sought after meat.
The teeth have tourist value as key chains and necklaces..
And yes, shoes, handbags, luggage and briefcases

The hunt itself could be a profit making venture

I’ve eaten gator multiple times that people have brought in and if I am going to spend the money that restaurants charge for it, I’m eating beef. It’s okay but I think it’s more about the novelty than taste. Maybe I just haven’t had it prepared right.

I like the “being dragged by the beast in a canal”.

It has a Victor Hugo vibe to it.

You can’t use a croc pot - it’s alligator.
