We've previously talked about 6th Generation fighters on this channel ( • The Race for 6th Generation Fighters ... ) but when they take to the skies, they won't be doing so alone.
Increasingly autonomous and capable unmanned combat aircraft are here, and they are going to change the way you build an air force.
Forces around the world are talking about the immense possibilities of combining manned and unmanned systems together into a cohesive team.
In this episode I discuss the concepts behind drone wingmen, some of the major development programs, and what they might mean for the future of air warfare.
bkmk
i like Perun as i crank it up to 1.5x or 1.75x and still understandable
I’m a licensed drone pilot—FAA Part 107—and have expected drones to be completely outlawed here in the US because they are such a weapon. I am stunned some crazy has yet to use one in a terrorist attack.
Not sure a see much reason for a drone wingman. The wingman keeps the lead safe by watching for threats as the lead concentrates on the task. If a drone can do that, that same tech can simply be installed in the lead plane. And the drone doesn’t need to maneuver to address a threat in an era of all aspect missiles.
But it sounds extremely effective at enriching DC and procurement officers retirement gigs.
While I have no doubt the US can develop high quality drones, can we produce them (here) at reasonable cost compared to non allies?
You just look at the new shiny whizzy drone. Lockheed Martin and Congress will worry about the price so you don’t need to concern yourself with that.
yup, just like Amazon, home delivery...
ya just have to watch it to understand the concepts he’s talking about
drones aren’t autonomous yet...
like everything else, no...
It’s not a stretch to imagine a Terminator/SkyNet future for the human race.
It would make little difference whether or not killer drones were controlled expressly by a rogue computer network or by a small tyrannical network of humans programming the drones: For the control of serfdom and, if necessary, extermination of human rebel elements not submitting to the will of those who have siezed power.
global freefire zone...
Read the book, ‘Kobani’ if you are into the future of aerial warfare and drone wing mates. High tech military fiction at its best with great cast of characters. You can thank me later.
ok, thx... $5 on kindle
You’re going to love it!

In the near future the military will fly hundreds of drones in unison near the enemy and will spell out: Surrender Dorothy
I mean: Surrender
LOLOL...
