“Spare the handcuffs and spoil the child!”
In my day the Vice Principal had a large paddle on the wall behind his desk, and woe to the one that he took it off the wall for...
Vouchers. Take the kid to a school that would take them. Extra money for special needs kids. Everyone’s ass is covered here. Now it’s just the settlement.
THe “child” threw an absolutely insane fit - including flailing and hitting. Obviously the child had no home training - and she was perp walked because she lost her mind and wouldn’t chill. No sympathy.
The child struck a teacher...
Is in the care of her grandmother...
I think that child needs psychological care.
She’s not capable of attending public school at the moment.
Every school out there has what they call a “calming room” which is basically a small lockable room with dim lights and plastic furniture. A six year old who strikes a teacher belongs in the calming room (while expulsion procedures are started) until a parent or guardian shows up.
Too much coddling of juveniles. She was perp-walked because she was acting like a perp.
Not condoning the police officers’ actions, but I would like to know if the child has thrown any more tantrums at school since then.
I find it rather odd that the grandmother waits four years before bringing this lawsuit against the school and the cops.
When she finally does sue, the financial goal
is ‘only’ $50K.
If you’re going to stir all those feelings, angst, Discovery and all that anger up again, why not go for the gusto and ask for
what?... $2 Million?
If Grandma only wants to make a point that the situation was not handled properly, then just say so, and don’ ask for any money at all. Ask for a formal apology and maybe
psycho therapy for the now 10 year old girl.
My sister specializes in these type of kids - disabilities, broken homes, etc and there is no way she would agree to this ever. She’s been pummeled, bitten, spat on, etc
She’s wore out after so much time and the stupid administrative burdens, but will always tell me they just need love and patience.
Retired teacher. The behaviors are absolutely out of control now. Expelling a child is almost impossible. The child knows, from a very young age, that they can act any way they want when they have a “disability.” These children often rule the roost.
And yes, they are getting a fat settlement.
When I was in grade school, I would have expected to get my ass beat by the principal or the teacher. Then When I got home, I would have a got another ass beating for getting an ass beating at school!
As I walk through BJ’s or Sam’s here in central Florida, you can always predict the skin color when you hear (or see) kids acting wild, and their parents are standing right there by them.
Bad look for the school AND the parents. Pathetic.
The cops went to far on this. That said, this kid is going to end up like those gals you see busting up and fighting like animals in a McDonalds.
Mama can make all the excuses she wants, but this kid is heading for real trouble. Tantrums and hitting the teacher because she doesn’t get her way aren’t acceptable. She doesn’t need sunglasses in school.
Mama should have turned this into a chance to let the kid know that this is what happens when you don’t behave. Don’t act like that and it won’t happen. Instead it was turned into a way to line her own pockets.
Am I alone in reading enough of the article to get to this point? WTF is this of the glasses all about?
Spare the rod and spoil the child.
An alternative would be to zip tie her hands and ankles on a heavy chair in the principals’ office. Then leave it up to the principal when to use scissors to free her. If the child is exceptionally noisy, put them in another room for a ‘time out’.
The exception would be when the child has either caused one or more injuries to other children or adults, or if they have gone on a destructive rampage over, say $500 in damages.
“She was ‘having a tantrum’ due to her pediatric obstructive sleep apnea” Horse $h!t.
My grade school was a bald, beady eyed ex marine with the arms of a tree. He walked the halls with a sawed off canoe oar.
When He used it, it was heard. There was none of this kind of BS. In fact, none of this BS happened when I was a grade schooler so so so many years ago.
No tears here. Kids get crazy out of control and do become dangerous even if small. I worked in a hospital. Kids were strapped to tables because they were a danger to the medical staff. If a nurse is being attacked he or she can’t help anyone.
