This was such a concern to me that I immediately tested my brain as soon as I woke up.
The TIVA protocol was used on me so I may have been less at risk. They used the Michael Jackson drug.
I gargled with something..can’t remember what but might have been licorice ..right before surgery to help with side effects.

Anesthesia is not without risks.That's for sure. General anesthesia has been described as "killing you just enough", and there's an old medical saying that you don't pay the anesthesiologist to put you to sleep, you pay him to wake you back up.
I still don't want to undergo surgery without anesthesia, though.
