Chrome browser not allowing me to see FreeRep. page on my phone! Happened 2 days ago for a few hours. Happening now.

I will firstly admit that I am the opposite of Tech Savvy. I resisted moving on from my WebTV gadget to my laptop computer for years. I only stopped, when customer service at Best Buy didn't even know what WebTV was and had to Tweet their managers or their Dads.

That being said, I have noticed some difficulty getting FreeRepublic to show up on my cell phone (or Android). It first happened last Wednesday. I would press the button in my Favorites for FreeRep, but I would be lead to my last search page on Google, often about topics having nothing to do with FreeRep. I tried multiple times and with the same result.

Finally, I thought, it's time to use my other browser, Firefox. That works just fine. Chrome has prevented me from viewing the FreeRep. page since yesterday Saturday morning at about 8.30am. I was already up, preparing to go to my part time job. Hoping to get one last 'fix' of the news before my job started at 9am.

I bring this up so those who manage this website are aware that a few FreeRep. users may also be getting the Walled Off treatment.

That was my first thought. I kept thinking it’s just me, is there something I’m not doing correctly, and maybe that is the case, but then I wonder if more are having the same experience.

Okay. Maybe I need to remove cookies and cache more often.

Just because "they" are out to get you doesn't necessarily mean all glitches are "their" doing.

Sometimes it's something else.

E.g. Software has bugs, caches get stale and flaky, and sometimes sheet just happens.

:-)

Chrome aka Microsoft has determined that Free Republic is a danger to the Amerikan Demokratik Regime, I guess.

Good plan. Leaving that stuff around is asking for trouble.

The flip side is you have to actually sign-in to sites (incl. FR) after you clear cookies. Small price, IMO.

When Microsoft bought Webtv I kept my old webtv address.

It is hilarious getting spam that pretends webtv still exists...

Chrome is Google. "Edge" is Microsoft.

Also see #6 above.

I highly recommend the Brave browser. I use it on my phone and laptop.

When I bring up chrome. My most often used sites are there. FreeRepublic is never there. It is definitely blocked from my ‘most often used’ sites.

Brave. I’ll need to look into that as a standby choice.

Like Tolstoy said in reference to families:
“All browsers are functional and fallible, but in their own ways.”

Agreed.

Almost all browsers these days -- with the exception of Firefox -- are based on the open-source software package "Chromium". Chromium is the basic foundation for a ton of browsers:

The open-source Chromium package was originally developed by Google. So if you're truly paranoid about Google, you need to avoid all of the above except Firefox.

Oops, correction:

> ...you need to avoid all of the above except Firefox

And if you're on an Apple product, Safari is still non-Chromium.

Crazy idea. Don’t use the communist company’s browser.

Just because it’s a chromium based browser is not necessarily a bad thing.
I’d be interested in knowing if anyone uses Vivaldi. It’s supposed to be like the old Opera, which I used almost exclusively several years ago.

I have found another good option that I trust even more than Brave or Firefox I been wanting to share with you Dayglored. And it will accept all the Firefox addons.
