I’ve tried to drop hints on what’s going on to coworkers where I can. A few are figuring it out, but I still get the “conspiracy theorist” vibe from most. Since we seem to be against an upcoming “hard stop” soon, a couple times I’ve offered up a pizza lunch - on my dime - to try and just move into a bit more of a frank conversation background.
Well, of course, couldn’t get that off the ground for various reasons. Mostly because we only have so many nice Fridays left in Michigan, and it’s now become a matter of personal choice to “work from home” when you want. However I did have one co-worker that “suddenly had a conflicting event” pop up on his calendar that prevented him from attending.
During lunchtime.
I wound up cancelling the lunch, but on the day while they were all working from home, I got an online messaging chat going in the morning, just lighthearted banter. I joked with them they needed to come in more, as nobody was bringing me donuts and I need my usual sugar buzz. I let them know that the pizza lunch was effectively cancelled, but maybe we could try it another time. The guy that suddenly had something else going at lunch quipped about missing a good “indoctrination”.
This point in human history will be known as the Great Awakening. But that guy, a week and a half earlier, had confided in me that his wife who does insurance stuff at home noticed an alarming uptick trend in miocarditis and other deaths in young people.
Can we maybe refer to this pre-Awakening period as the Great Ironies?
Sorry, had to vent that one. There’s more to that guys background that I can already see is going to make things tough for him at a personal level, but I have a hard time when people don’t have a backbone to put their fellow mans health & well being in consideration.
OK, back to the front lines...
(Or, maybe carp like this has something to do with it, and explains why we have more luck awakening strangers than the people we know daily...
