The Carpenters - Our Day Will Come (1973)
When I was a youngster, I was offered a chance to sing with the Carpenters on stage, as “Sing” called for a children’s chorus. I declined because I didn’t like their music.
As I matured, I developed an appreciation for Karen’s voice and much of their work, though I still HATE “Sing” and “Close to You”.
I always felt sorry for Karen Carpenter. She had great talent - and not just as a singer. Look up youtube videos about her playing the drums - she was great.
She married a loser who took advantage of her for her money. Such a sad story.

very good. thx for the post. i don’t remember hearing this Carpenter’s cover ‘snippet’ in the 70’s, and i consider myself a fan.
When I was a kid my mom lived Close to You. I could never stand that song.
Many Carpenters songs are absolute classics. Karen Carpenter was an unequaled talent.
Beautiful pic, thanks.
Me too. Even though I couldn’t admit to my friends I liked a lot of their songs, but especially loved her voice. Tortured soul.
*BUMP* Loved their music. Grew up on it. :)
“Karen Carpenter was an unequaled talent.”
yes, very well said. She has real charisma, truly an icon. Not flashy, just a certain kind of perfect.
Here’s a total fave - Superstar:

I had heard that she had perfect pitch and I love her voice. So I did a short search and here are two lists of others said to have perfect pitch.

Daryl Hall came up next after Karen. My brother idolized him and Oates. :)
Like to hear it on a really good analog sound syystem. But even on this poor computer, her incredible gift comes across. Thanks!
I remember it by Ruby and the Romantics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfnEoou-FKU
Can’t compare to Karen though.

Thanks for that. Could not agree more.
Youtube has done a lot to expand the horizons of music to young people these days.
I see lots of comments in “oldies” music videos from young people who say the same thing you did about today’s music!
