New bodycam footage documents the harrowing moments after a woman in a long-term vegetative state gave birth at an Arizona care home after being raped by a male nurse.
Staff Hacienda Healthcare in Phoenix appeared completely bewildered with many seen to be in tears following the birth, as the entire pregnancy had come as a complete surprise.
The footage also shows police in the room with the victim - although it is heavily pixellated and neither she nor her newborn are visible.
The birth happened in December 2018 and triggered global outrage - but bodycam footage has only just been shared by police following a Freedom of Information request.
'And when I looked, it was a *inaudible*. The baby coming,' a distressed nurse can be heard telling an officer as she tearfully recounts the moment of birth and how she saw a baby's head poking out as she changed the victim's adult diaper.
'When she opened the diaper, there was a head. And that poor aide didn't work for a month. She was so distraught, so traumatized by the whole thing,' a former employee told AZFamily.
The video reveals the chaos and emotion of facility staff in the minutes following the baby boy's arrival in December 2018.
It also sees police going about their initial enquiries as they try to establish who had access to the victim's room.
The woman, who was 29 at the time of the rape, has been severely disabled almost all of her life - since the age of three - and has been in a coma for most of it, meaning she was in no position to consent to sex.

Imagine being pregnant, going through all the symptoms and not being able to tell about them... and no one had a clue she was pregnant. On top of that, add the rape.

I can’t believe that care home did not know! They did not test her after the rape? They did not notice a large stomach? Sounds like that place is lame and I sure hope that family won a large lawsuit.

I know a young, highly intelligent woman that has had two babies and she did not know she was pregnant the first time until she went into labor. On baby two, her husband insisted she have a pregnancy test at 6 months and she was pregnant.
I know what you’re thinking and I thought every bit of it, and I wondered about my own faculties just like you are doing. How in the world is it possible for a woman not to know? I cannot explain it, but I saw it happen. One of those times in life where you just go “huh?”

Did she not have obvious signs of being pregnant? The care facility did not do their job on so many levels.

How do you get “footage” from a camera that uses a card instead of film?
I vividly recall reading this story a few years back. The article retells the story but never says why it’s being brought back up after all this time. I thought they were going to say this man has just been released or something equally outrageous.
