Abortions have risen by up to 220 percent in states that border those with bans since Roe v Wade was overturned in June 2022, a study shows.
The data, from the pro-abortion research group Guttmacher Institute, suggests many women have been forced to cross state lines to end pregnancies.
New Mexico, which borders Oklahoma, and Wyoming, which borders three other states, saw the biggest percentage increases, with more than three times as many abortions provided in the first half of 2023 compared to 2020.
Kansas and South Carolina also saw their number of abortions double in that time.
Illinois, which borders Wisconsin, Missouri and Kentucky, saw the greatest total increase of abortions, with 18,300 performed between 2020 and 2023.
The researchers said their findings 'indicate that all aspects of the abortion infrastructure—including facilities, funds and support networks—require sustained support to serve increased patient caseloads.'
It comes as Mexico's Supreme Court decriminalized abortion on Wednesday, meaning that all government clinics must offer abortion to anyone who requests it during the first 12 weeks of a pregnancy.
Some 22 states now ban or restrict abortion earlier in pregnancy than the standard set by Roe v Wade — before the beginning of the third trimester.
The data was published Thursday by the Guttmacher Institute, a research and policy group that supports abortion rights.
They used estimates based on a regular survey of a core set of providers, which they expanded to the state level using a model to factor in historical trends.
The findings compare the amount of abortions given by the providers in the first half of 2023 with the first half of 2020.
The abortions included are those given in a formal healthcare setting, such as an in-person clinic, or abortions provided remotely using a pill and overseen by a clinician.

The states that ban it will be blessed by God.
Note the pictures of the women "forced" to travel for abortions. No one forced them to do anything. Their own state had safe haven laws.
We don’t murder babies where I live.
Oklahoma here. Abortion clinics are gone.
The key word, is ESTIMATES.
Murderous women need to murder them some babies.
The baby killers will all go to hell.
Unless they repent and turn to Jesus Christ before it’s too late.
Some very bad Juju coming around.
Did I miss something?
Which states have banned abortions?
NevaDUH has it covered in the Nevada Revised Statutes(const) up to 24 weeks (later if “necessary”?). Passed by a voter referendum in 1990. Yeah, it ain’t going away. Maybe the NV Travel folks could do an ad. “ You can unload more than your wallet in NV!”
This was as of a year ago and a lot has changed since
This is part of the media narrative that the reason that Republicans underperformed in the last election was the overturn of Rowe v Wade NOT massive election fraud.
Why does the Daily Mail care?
Stop f-ing without a condom!!! Jeez
Oh those poor women who had to travel so many hours just to kill their baby. Notice they smile for the camera and are so happy about it too
My friends those blue states are going to do some serious soul searching over what they’re doing. If it was ok in all 50 states they could dilute the blame.
Really? Glad you’re not God. At least He gives an opportunity for forgiveness.
