Part of me says, write him off and let him go.
But, he is crazy and we’re supposed to protect those people from themselves.
Now, if he had a reliable crew to shadow and support him, it’d be fun to watch and they’d probably net him try.

I think the authorities should have just warned him his attempt was not very smart, and then let him go on his way, with the additinal warning he’d get no help from them later on.
