Singer Gary Wright died at 80 years old on Monday after years of health issues, according to his family.

Wright's son, Justin Wright, told TMZ that the musician died Monday morning at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California, with his family and loved ones by his side.

The singer-songwriter was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease more than five years ago and, shortly after that diagnosis, also learned he had Lewy body dementia. Wright's Parkinson's worsened over the past year and ultimately prevented him from speaking or moving around on his own, according to his son.

In 1975, while working at a burger place, one of the girls gave me a Gary Wright 8-track for Christmas (employee exchange). I wasn't that much into him and exchanged it at the store for a Doobie Brothers Stampede 8-track.

Dreamweaver was OK - I'll post a couple of his videos that I liked

Judas Priest covered a song by Spooky Tooth (written by Wright) called Better By You, Better Than Me on their fourth album.

RIP to the Dream Weaver.

Forgot to add that this was the song that got Judas Priest sued, blaming them for the suicide and suicide attempt (respectively) of James Vance and Ray Belknap back in 1985.

RIP Gary Wright. He created some iconic rock n roll music.

I was a young metalhead back then and it was all over the rock n roll magazines and newspapers for months. I never did like Judas Priest.

I was just a lil kid then, but even I knew it was something special *(culturally, at least, politically, it sucked after ‘74 until ‘81), at least I recognized it by the time it was all over. Especially now, when it’s horrible today across the board, culturally and politically. :-(

The 1970s was the best decade and I saw so many great musicians during that period - from Gary Wright, Loggins&Messina, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Eric Clapton, Santana, Paul McCartney, Who.

Also saw great jazz artists at my local jazz club - the best venue to see a show sitting at a small table drinking a beer and 5 feet from the stage.

What’s called music these days is just distorted noise and racist hate speech.

Didn’t make a lot of money but we still had fun.

1970 I walked to my local McDonald’s (it was about 5 miles LOL - took guitar lessons next door to it).

As I recall, I got a hamburger (or cheeseburger), fries and a Coke and still got change back from $1.

The McDonald’s is still there - went by it about 9-10 years ago. Our old house is still there.

Love that javelin. Seeing one is like seeing a unicorn nowadays.

Talked to the owner - the car was really nice

I gave up on most modern music, TV, and movies around the early 00s.

June 13, 1976 at RFK Stadium in D.C. I saw Pousette-Dart Band (?), Peter Frampton, Gary Wright, and Yes. I like my rock with more of an edge, but I knew Gary Wright from his work with Spooky Tooth (”You Broke My Heart, So I Busted Your Jaw”). Frampton was way past his days with Humble Pie and Steve Marriott, and Yes were in their “Roundabout” tour. All in all, a pretty laidback day. Peace man....

It’s not “music”; it’s just “noise”.
