There are still 385 people on the official list of those missing after the Maui wildfire 27 days after the blaze tore through the seaside town of Lahaina, killing at least 115 people.
The FBI and the Maui Police Department announced Friday that 245 of the people on the list of 388 missing individuals from the previous week were located and removed from the list. But, a nearly equal number of new names were added.
The new figure was an unfortunate amendment to what Hawaiian Governor Josh Green said he had expected just one day earlier, which was that the number of missing people would fall below 100.
'We think the number has dropped down into the double digits, so thank God,' Green said in a video.
In a statement, he added: 'Exact numbers are going to take time, perhaps a long time, to become finalized.'
After the new update, Green said the number of fatalities following mass casualty events are often in flux until investigations are completed.
He also said that there are less than 50 'active missing person cases,' though he did not go into specifics about that figure.
Authorities believe that at least 115 were killed by the 1,000-degree blaze. The names of 50 of the deceased have been made public, and most of the rest have yet to be identified.
On August 8, flames pushed by 60 mph gusts of wind tore through the 12,000-person town, razing homes and businesses alike and destroying a place with strong ties to Native Hawaiian history.
More than half of the town's residents are now living in hotels and short-term rentals as they figure out what's next as the EPA works to eliminate hazardous waste left in the town's burn zone.
Reconstruction will be a long and expensive process.

Have they found the arsonist(s) yet? 🤔
I wonder how many would have died or more importantly how many more would have survived if hawaiians were armed to the teeth and had the will to use their weapons?
Look at the bright side- Oprah, The cRock, Obamas, and the rest of the upper crust of WEF Bugeating re-setters will get to re-develop that land into luxurious plantations that the former Lahaina residents could now be their laborers.
What?
Go read about police blocking roadways.
If the people missing are minors...
Was the district padding the rolls?
Were the families here illegally?
Are officials hiding the fact that most of the dead were kids who were home alone and murdered by their government?
I will never again trust anything that comes out of the tyrannical maw of the Eff Bee Eye.
The number is *something* but probably way different than 385. Like their father the devil, the FBI comes only to lie, steal, kill and destroy.
as the EPA works to eliminate hazardous waste left in the town’s burn zone.
Such as?
I only know whats being reported but people should be allowed back to sift the remains of their lives and make some plans...not be held in some limbo for weeks on end.
But the power company said that the power was cut off hours before the storm/fires.
Police did not block passable roads. They positioned cars near downed power lines so people would not strike them. They blocked roads that were impassable due to fire. To even suggest that Hawaiian police officers blocked viable exit routes and therefore hand a direct hand in the murder of their fellow citizens is one of the vilest conspiracies to come across this forum in quite some time.
I don’t believe a damn thing from government, particularly the FBI. They have zero credibility and are never to be trusted.
Why did the power company lie and say they had the power off?
Someone isn’t being truthful.
What does a local fire have to do with the FBI?
The power company is irrelevant and the convenient whipping boy.
It came from and interview with a local named Fish and other quoted interviewees.
Is it true?
I don’t know, but it’s not a conspiracy theory made up on this site.
The initial fire (in the morning) was sparked by downed lines. That fire was 100% contained. The fire fighters left, and a flareup started that afternoon. The power company was repairing the lines, with the power off, when the flareup occurred.
That is what I read about from a couple of different sources.
I didn’t say it originated here. It’s perpetuated here and it’s disgusting.
