Deion Sanders rails against doubters after Colorado's big upset in opener — 'Do you believe now?'
Yahoo ^ | Sep 3, 2023 | Ross Dellenger

ORT WORTH, Texas — Before even entering the media conference room, the voice of Deion Sanders boomed from the hallway inside the bowels of TCU’s football stadium.

Deion arrived with receipts, he said. All of them. Receipts for miles. He keeps them all, and he's got 'em all. He won't forget 'em, either.

Not literal receipts, of course. Coach Prime isn’t carrying around those thin, white slips that cashiers distribute. The receipts he carries are from the doubters.

And, whoa boy, before his Colorado Buffaloes marched into Fort Worth and stunned No. 17 TCU 45-42, there were doubters. Lots of them.

“I keep receipts,” he snapped after the win Saturday.

He saw what you wrote, he snarled at one writer before moving on to the next question. Oh, he said to another, you want to ask him about his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and his record-breaking 510 yards passing?

“Shedeur Sanders? From the HBCU?” he interrupted, glaring from beneath his white hat, a gold chain slung around his white hoodie. “The one that played at Jackson last year? The one that you asked me why I’d give him the starting job? Wasn’t that you?”.......

And then, triggered by a question, Sanders brought into the discussion race, a topic most shy away from. Not him.

“We’re going to continuously be questioned because we do things that have never been done,” he said. “That makes people uncomfortable, when you see a competent Black man sitting up and talking his talk and walking the walk. There’s 75% of African-Americans in that locker room. That's kinda threatening.

Sports betting is huge and getting bigger at a geometric rate.

If more states continue to legalize it, states like Florida it will be incredibly large.

If you have money on a game, it certainly makes it more interesting and what better way to do that than in your living room with multiple TVs, which is why 100,000 stadiums are not that big of a deal.

UF is planning on spending 400 million for stadium renovations, part of those renovations will be to reduce capacity and add luxury, which I support.

After 30 years of being a season ticket holder at UF, my yearly cost was $4000, when I got older and my wife didn’t want to go anymore, plus we had a vacation condo to go to, we elected to give up the tickets and watch them TV.

UF practically begged me to come back, I told them one thing they should consider was reducing the stadium capacity, the UAA guy told me that would never happen, now it’s on planning list to do when the stadium is renovated.

These things happen, it’s embarrassing but they add up in the long term, these things go in cycles.

Alabama fired a new Head Coach before he coached a single game over getting caught with a prostitute.

FSU had players lining up facing the wrong direction on plays.

Georgia went thru Ray Goff and Jim Donnan, Tennessee went thru a string of losers, the point is, things go in cycles.

It may not be Napier but at some point a coach at UF will start to win big, we have to many positives to be down forever.

When I was a student at UF, we went 0-10-1 one year, so I now losing and have been in stands for national title wins, I’ve seen both extremes.

Thing is, I remember that 1979 team, they only had a few players of talent, but they played hard, and they did improve as the season progressed, they were competitive against a pretty good FSU team.

And you saw the payoff in the next season, when we were Lindsey Scott away from a share of the SEC title.

I don’t see this happening with Napier right now, they regressed last year as the season progressed, and that embarrassment on Thursday, I don’t care about the stats or the score, the bottom-line is they didn’t look like a well-coached team.

Or an NFL team. Would Jerry Jones (Dallas Cowboys) hire him? I say yes.

Would his success translate to the NFL? HC in the NFL is not at all the same kind of job as HC for a major NCAA program. But my guess is that Sanders would be as successful as Jim Harbaugh was - both are smart men who know how to hire great assistants and delegate responsibility. In other words, both know how to lead.

And seeing how Richardson did ok in pre-season, it makes me wonder what he would have accomplished in college with better coaches.

LOL, they think UF fans are bad, wait until Saban is no longer at Bama, and they get their turn.

Probably not much, he knew he was going to be a 1st round draft pick and packed it in early in the season.

Before the SEC added Texas A&M and Missouri, I had been to every stadium in the SEC, including at Georgia.

UF fans are no better or worse than anyone else, I’ve been heckled and seen fights and near fights everywhere.

It’s the passion of college football combined with alcohol makes people behave badly and want to fight.

Very entertaining game. Figured CU would win.
Deion for Trumps VP.

Deion won me over when I watched the videos of the talks he gave his players in the lockerroom when he was at Jackson State.

On the last day of this month, Deion will learn that God is a Trojan!

Deion knows better than to work for Jones. Everything Sanders is showing himself to be good at (picking players, designing a game plan for them) is stuff Jones doesn’t let his coaches do. Taking that job would destroy all the credibility he’s built in college with 2 4-13 seasons and getting fired.

Probably very true, it should be a very exciting game if you don’t care who wins, I’m not a fan of either team, but both teams have great QBs and WRs, so it should generate a lot of big plays.

A lot of people complain on how Florida fans are so impatient and run coaches out of town.

My answer is that, that’s what happens when you hire bad coaches in the first place.

Has Muschamp gotten a head coaching job since? No.

McElwain did get another HC job, at Central Michigan.

And I don’t see Mullen as a head coach again.

Agreed. No way he could work with Jerry.

Deion has pissed off a lot of FSU fans (another reason I like the guy, heh heh), by saying that’s he’s not a Nole, because he graduated from an HBCU.

Muschamp actually did get another HC job, he was at South Carolina, one year after getting fired at UF, he lasted a couple years at South Carolina before getting fired there.

Mullen probably doesn’t want to coach anymore, he stole 25-30 million at UF and will live comfortably for a very long time.

*Deion’s brash ways and him thanking Jesus for everything combined with him being black is not well liked by a lot of people which is stupid, the guy is a hall of fame player and is on track to a fantastic football coach.*

The skeptic in me says it’s a long season but he’s good for college football. Remember when he wanted to be the Falcons HC? All he would do is hire an OC, DC, and a special-teams coach. Right there I though here’s another shiftless one. Didn’t get along with Jerry Rice. Paying his dues at Jackson State he’s doing it by the numbers. Looks good in a cowboy hat.

Deion runs his mouth, but he was always the hardest working player on the field, in practice, in games, in the Pros, in College. He’s kind of a hard-ass as a coach, got rid of half the players at Colorado right off the bat. Someone said he’s Mickey Andrews with a better smile (Andrews crucified slackers, and was Deion’s role model in college, and yeah, Andrews was a gator before Bowden hired him).

Oh yeah, I did forget about that, lol, maybe Napier will continue of tradition of former UF coaches going there, like Spurrier and Muschamp.
