The impeachment trial, the first such proceeding here in half a century, will take place in the Texas Capitol and will delve into broad allegations of corruption against the state’s top lawyer. State senators will serve as jurors and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick as the presiding officer. Paxton and dozens of other witnesses are expected to be there on Day One.
Arguably one of the most well-known state attorneys general in the country, Paxton has called the trial a political sham and likened it to his ally Donald Trump’s legal troubles.
“[Republicans in name only] and far-left radicals have established a kangaroo court in the TX Lege to eliminate America’s most conservative Attorney General,” the pinned post on Paxton’s X account reads, before asking for a campaign donation: “Help me fight back!”
Paxton denies doing anything wrong.
No criminal penalties are associated with impeachment, and Paxton won’t automatically lose his state pension if convicted. He is suspended without pay pending the trial’s outcome.
In May, the Texas House impeached Paxton by a vote of 121-23. A majority of Republican representatives backed impeachment.
What could happen Tuesday?
Paxton wants the impeachment articles thrown out and the trial halted before it even starts.
His lawyers say he cannot be removed from office for alleged misdeeds that have occurred since his re-election because of the “prior election doctrine,” which they argue makes it’s illegal for an official to be removed for acts committed before their most recent election. The House managers dispute that argument.
The Senate jurors could choose to vote on Paxton’s motion to dismiss first thing Tuesday.

“He came up against the execrable Dade Phelan, speaker of the Texas House and a nasty RINO puke. Worked to have him removed for public drunkenness during session.”
True.
No term limits for Texas governor.
Because he overcame voter fraud and is warning others.

Shortly after he gave that speech they began to persecute him. You can confirm the timing for yourself.
Bkmk
In the meeting last month, party members said Phelan has failed to adhere to the party’s platform and principles.
“During the past two legislative sessions as speaker, he has appointed 22 committee chairs. I counted 22 democratic chairman. You can’t possibly promote a conservative philosophy if you’re appointing democratic committee chairs. That’s right. That’s right,” said a party member at the meeting.
The rats and rinos in the house have made an alliance. They vote together and the rats vote with the rinos to keep a conservative from being speaker
If he supports Trump, then naturally the Rinos are after him, especially wanting to secure the border!!
Didn’t Louie Gohmert run against him?
Texas has open primaries. Dems help keep RINOs in office.
“That’s a big number”
Yep, almost as big as the number of RINOs in the US House right now.
Thanks, I do recall about DeLay.
Yes, against Prescott Bush.
Additionally, he’s constantly fighting the Biden regime.
And yet from article...
His lawyers say he cannot be removed from office for alleged misdeeds that have occurred since his re-election because of the “prior election doctrine,” which they argue makes it’s illegal for an official to be removed for acts committed before their most recent election. The House managers dispute that argument.
So uhm, isn't this impeachment about overturning an election?
Kinda ironic.
What specifically makes Texas house Republicans “RINOS”?? Are they passing socialist budgets....restricting guns...promoting LBGTQ+ agendas?
You can’t just say they’re RINOS just for going after Paxton. The charges are very specific and non-partisan in nature.
One of the key figures attends my church.
He told me that parents obtaining surgery to mutilate their children in transgenderism are to be supported.
He also said that local Texas GOP volunteers are worthless in an online post and need to be gotten rid of.
It is pretty obvious.
He also did receive a lot of financial support from Phelan which certainly looks as if it was a bought vote.
Moreover, the charges brought by the House were:
1. Not rendered into a written vote.
2. Did not allow or pursue evidence opposing the charges.
3. Did not contact or allow comment from Paxton or any Paxton representative
4. Were rushed through on a Saturday afternoon vote during Memorial Day weekend.
5. No prior notice was given to constituents about the idea of impeaching the Attorney General of Texas
6. Phelan was criticized around the time of the charges by Paxton for being publicly inebriated. It seems clear that Phelan retaliated to that charge by bringing these charges.
7. Even some Democrats refused to vote for the House charges.
The George P Bush RINOs are all butt-hurt because no one wants another Bush in office and we voters owe it to him to elect him to any office he seeks and elect him overwhelmingly. It boils down to the fact that they couldn’t beat him on an election so they decided to lawfare him out of office.
