> Watch the video. <
I did. Either something is missing from that video or I’m getting older. I can’t tell where the cop who fired the shot was standing when he shot the driver.
If he was standing in front of the car, it’s self-defense.
If he was standing off to the side, it’s murder.
Side note: There were two cops on-scene. In the video, one cop is well on the side of car. Was he the one who fired the shot? Or was he the other cop?
But will we know if they found evidence of shoplifting?
Yeah; shop like they do in CA; free sh$t for everybody! NO arrests or prosecution, either.
Shoplifting is THEFT, probably caught on surveillance video, but it will be all about the catch-all "over-reaction by police", even though the perp, in this case, attempted to run over the officer with her car.
In Ohio, we have a Stand Your Ground environment, and no obligation to retreat, when attacked.
For the bleeding hearts, and "woke", it's ALWAYS they "dint do nuffin'" and "over-reaction by police", whenever laws are broken.
Time to start culling the herd, 3ven over fast-food-dis-satisfaction riots.......no repeat offenders, and a message to the law-breaking-way-of-lifers.
What part of ‘get out of the car’ do you not understand?
Shoppers, store owners and policemen are fed up with shoplifting……also called stealing
Well said, Sir.
Looks like a shot through the windshield by the cop standing in front of the vehicle. What a world we have created...
’L’ing up on a suspect is procedure in many instances. One cop at the door, one 90 degrees away. Both are in good position to shoot if necessary and a perp has to divide his attention in different directions.
Both cops had body cams. The one cop positioned himself in front of the car specifically to keep her from driving off with the other cops arm still in the window.
All she needed to do to stay alive was NOT try to run someone over.
He was. Directly in front with one hand on the hood.
BZZZZZZZZZZZtttttttt........WRONG
It's not murder to defend your partner's life, when he's being assaulted by a deadly weapon,.
Nice try.
LOL
Maybe she was “tired”
Polices seem to like that getting in front of the car. Any movement is an excuse to open fire for some of them.
If the goal is to prevent the car from moving, provide them with quick to deploy wheel stops. No one, cop or perp will be in danger if the car is immobilized.
Nothing ‘tragic’ about FAFO...
The perp made a deliberate decision to drive her vehicle into a police officer, after being lawfully ordered to exit the car.
Is there a word for ‘consequences’ in ebonics?
I tend to agree with you. It’s not like they didn’t know who she was, where she lived, and what she drove. She wasn’t “getting away” with anything.
While I appreciate them taking a stand against shoplifting…this response was WAY over the top. Standing in front of a car like that is not a good plan. Even if you are pulling a weapon on a scene that did not seem to call for it.
There might be a bunch of extenuating circumstances, prior encounters, or stuff we did not see in the video. That is why they do investigations. However, I doubt that drawing your pistol on a shoplifter is part of their policy.
assault with a deadly woman.
FAFO
I go with the cops on this one. Should have just gotten out of the car. If the cops were out of line, she would have had lawyers jumping at the chance to represent her.
> It’s not murder to defend your partner’s life, when he’s being assaulted by a deadly weapon <
Well, sure. No argument there. My concern relates to the “being assaulted” part. If one of the cops was in front of the car the instant the bullet was fired, then it was a good shoot. It doesn’t matter which cop fired the shot.
But if the cop who had been struck by the car had already moved off to the side, then he was no longer in danger. And so it was a bad shoot.
As I noted earlier, I can’t tell from the video which of the two possibilities it was.
And she could have chosen not to steal!
I know, I know, “she was only shoplifting.”
Think along the same lines as Rudy Giullani’s broken windows scenario.
This is how these $950.00 thefts began.
It starts by ignoring or not arresting for the little things.
