JUST IN: Former U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer is considering a run for the U.S. Senate in Michigan and has formed an exploratory committee

Yes he did.
Yes, he voted to impeach but I understand he’s a Principled Conservative according to the Fox News crowd.
If he runs as a republican he will be the best that we can do. Go for it.
Meijer is damaged goods and a whiner.
“Rep. Peter Meijer lost his Republican primary to represent Michigan’s 3rd district this week. The first-term congressman served in the Iraq war and cast one of his first House votes to impeach former President Donald Trump.
He lost to John Gibbs, a former Trump official who has pushed false claims about the 2020 election. Congressman Meijer has criticized the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which spent big money on ads to boost his opponent.”
Hopefully that’s a non starter. He showed his colors.
Yes, and he got primaried in 2022, refused to endorse his primary opponent, and the seat ultimately went D.
Is he related to the Meijer family that owns a chain of drugstores? They have been established for decades.
Meijer: ‘Not one’ regret over Trump impeachment vote despite defeat
“Not one,” Meijer said when asked if he has any regrets from his vote to impeach Trump. “I would rather lose office with my character intact than stay reelected having made sacrifices of the soul.”
The West Michigan lawmaker said he was proud of his Republican colleagues who “have been willing to fall on their swords” rather than finding ways to rationalize “the unacceptable or ignoring the glaring problems that are staring us in the face.”
He would be a Romney or a Collins, but the Democrats likely won’t let him win. They don’t need any of those right now.
Grocery stores. Quite wonderful places.
Former U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer...Michigan’s version of Adam Kinzinger.
Trust fund kid. His family, IIRC, are the billionaires who own a big grocery store chain.
Wikipedia says parents legally changed his last name to “Meyer” so that whatever he achieved in school (and life?) couldn’t be written off as favoritism. He changed it back to “Meijer” when he grew up, and now he’s in politics.
Well everything is relative.
Right now we have Stabenow. Easy trade for me.
Also Peters. Another easy trade for me.
You can’t always get what you want.
Meijer is a household name for recognition here.
Except we say “Meijers” for some reason.
Its a Michigan thing.
“he runs as a republican he will be the best that we can do. Go for it.”
This is why we can’t have nice things. He’s a party member deep through and deep state. Bought and paid for. Xompromised.
Because the stores were first named Meijer’s thrifty acres.
Thanks for the info. I thought he might be one of them.
Several offspring of retail leaders have gone into either politics or philanthropy. This helps those who grew up on Old Money to establish their own identity as adults.
I seem to recall someone from the Hudson family becoming a congressman. Hudson used to be one of the main department stores in downtown Detroit, and some areas in Ohio.
