Ronald Reagan, our 40th president and the icon and hero of the modern conservative movement in American politics, was once a Democrat.
Reagan Idolized FDR: As a young man who came of age during the Great Depression, Reagan idolized Franklin D. Roosevelt. The New Deal rescued the Reagan family finances, proving work for Reagan’s father, Jack. “I soon idolized FDR,” Reagan later recalled. He would promote FDR whenever he could as part of his radio announcer job, and he cast his first vote ever – for Roosevelt for president. He would go on to vote for FDR three more times and cast his vote in 1948 for Harry Truman. He was, in his own words, “an ardent New Dealer.”
Fireside Chats: In 1933, just days after FDR’s inauguration as president at the height of the Depression, with banks failing at an alarming rate and more and more Americans being thrown out of work, Reagan tuned in his radio. He joined hundreds of thousands of other Americans on March 12 to listen to FDR’s first Fireside Chat as the president explained the banking crisis. Reagan developed an imitation of FDR delivering a Fireside Chat with which he would amuse his friends

And Trump?
“If you’re a Republican at age 20, you don’t have a heart.
“If you’re a Democrat at age 30, you don’t have a head.”
Baloney.
My parents very publicly left the Dems in 1960 by getting elected to a local party organization, then going GOP.
But https://www.unz.com/runz/american-pravda-the-power-of-organized-crime/ about mob influence in California, talks about how mob-made MCA made Reagan.
This was before Reagan betrayed the working people of this country, shipping their jobs off to China.
Reagan gave us amnesty for 2.7 million illegals and two Justices that upheld Roe vs Wade.
So then Reagan was too liberal?
Absolutely he was. He turned California from a red state to a blue state.
He cared little to ensure his SCOTUS choices were solid. He could have ended RvW but did not.
Trump gave us 3 out of 3 Justices that overturned Roe Vs Wade.
De-Industrialization, financialization, Amnesty, 1986 Gun control Act. A lot wrong with that record.
Here he is, more liberal than Bush on immigration, and calling for open borders.

Pretty much the same reason we all left it. A lot of us were Roosevelt and Kennedy Democrats. I was a Reagan Democrat. Changed parties in 1982. W. Bush made me an Independent.
People complain about Roosevelt, but the GOP ran Herbert Hoover, Alf Landon, Wendell Willkie and Thomas Dewey against him. The McCain’s and Romney’s of their day.
The sooner those understand it’s not you dads democrat party any more they now fly their true colors.
Kind of like what the pirates did with flags to close to the ship they wanted.
And now you know why Reagan signed the biggest amenesty bill in history in 1986 which absolutely got clinton and obama elected and changed the social construct of the US forever.
He was a democrat for most of his life.
FDR caused a recession to turn into a depression and lengthened it bu a decade. Only WW2 and his death brought the country out of the depression.
You don’t see the difference between being a democrat pre-1960 when Texas and the South was democrat and becoming a democrat in the 2000s?
