Ukraine has entered Crimea under the cover of darkness, the first time Ukraine has stepped foot on Crimea since 2014. UA special forces planted the flag of Ukraine on the shore. Ukrainian forces are bursting through the lines near Robotyne, and Russian forces are crumbling. Putin gave an address about the death of Prigozhin today as well.
But they need 300 billion more $$.
“Occupied Crimea.”
The Catherine the Great Crimea, that one ?
“The Catherine the Great Crimea, that one ?”
Crimea as in peninsula, which was recognized as being part of Ukraine prior to Russia’s invasion and illegal annexation in 2014.
THIS BIT OF CRIMEAN HISTORY MAY BE HELPFUL:
“When Russia signed the Treaty of Paris in 1856, accepting defeat in the Crimean War—which had decimated its military and ruined its economy—it agreed to dismantle its naval base in the port city of Sevastopol. These were the terms demanded by Britain, France and their allies, who sought to eliminate Russia as a military threat in the Black Sea.
But the concession didn’t last long.
Russia began to rebuild Sevastopol during the Franco-Prussian War, in 1870. And throughout history, Russian leaders would return to Crimea again and again. After Germany’s bombing of Crimea during World War II, much of Sevastopol was in ruins. But Joseph Stalin declared the port a “hero city” and ordered it restored to its former neoclassical beauty.
Indeed, the Crimean peninsula has loomed large for Russian leaders ever since Russian Tsarina Catherine the Great annexed it from the Ottoman Empire in 1783. The strategically located peninsula, which is officially part of Ukraine, has given Russia military leverage not only in the Black Sea, but the greater Mediterranean region. After the fall of the Soviet Union, a 1997 treaty with Ukraine allowed Russia to keep its Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, under a lease that has been extended until 2042.
But in 2014, Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine in an illegal move that violated the territorial integrity of the former Soviet republic, and sparked a war that has displaced nearly 2 million people and destroyed the country’s infrastructure.”

Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, talks to DW about Kyiv’s counteroffensive efforts. Yermak says the military still needs fighter jets and missiles from allied nations and that he believes Ukraine will be victorious against Russia.
Ruzzia lost their $200m weapon system. Maybe Putin can sell one of his superyachts and use the money for a new S-400?
Wonder how long the Ukie meat puppets survived?
In 1942 the US Army Air Corps performed a raid on the Japanese capitol city of Tokyo. The damage was minimal.
Three years later the USAAC delivered two nuclear bombs to Japan.
Raids are precursors.
Hellfire is coming for Ruzzia.

I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the five hundred forty seventh day of the war.
Day 547: Aug 24
Today there is a lot of good news.
First of all, more information became available about the crush of the private jet that reportedly killed the Head of the Wagner Group, Evgeniy Prigozhin, his right hand, Dmytro Utkin, and the Head of Security, Valery Chekalov. Today, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency confirmed that Prigozhin was present on the board, according to the records. Moreover, the investigators of the crush have just found the remnants of Prigozhin’s mobile phone.
In the meantime, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, commented on the crush. Putin expressed his condolences to the families of those who died in the crush and added that despite the fact that Prigozhin had a troubled fate, he was a very useful person who helped to achieve a lot of goals.
Russian media has also started promoting a new version of the cause of the crush. Despite the fact that the locals heard two explosions and saw contrails, characteristic of air defense work, it was claimed that the crush likely happened due to the explosion inside the plane, possibly sabotage. It was reported that the plane recently underwent some out-of-schedule reparations when someone could have planted an explosive device.
But the biggest news today is that Ukrainian forces landed on the Crimean shore. Today in the morning, around 5 a.m., Ukrainians reportedly used up to 4 boats carrying GUR special forces and carried out a special operation in Cape Tarkhankut. By the way, this is exactly where the same forces yesterday destroyed a Russian air defense system, reportedly by launching an anti-ship missile from a boat.
The target of the special forces became the base of the Russian radio-radar troops, where Russians forces have powerful multi-functional radar systems, such as Nebo-M,
and modern radar systems for low-level surveillance, such as Kasta 2E.
Russian sources reported that Ukrainians managed to land on the shore and opened fire at the Russian forces. Russian sources admitted that Ukrainians raised their flag above the settlement, as could be seen from the combat footage, however, they claimed that Russians forces were ready to meet the attackers, quickly returned fire from machine guns, and destroyed all 4 boats and crew members.
Unfortunately for Russians, later released footage confirms that Ukrainian boat crews safely withdrew. Even Russian military bloggers reacted to this with harsh skepticism and said that this was a lame attempt to cover up the complete lack of protection of Crimea.
Moreover, some less prominent Russian sources released footage from the base, clearly showing that Russians were not prepared to be ambushed at night at all. The Spokesman for Ukrainian Intelligence confirmed that Ukrainian special forces indeed landed on the Crimean shore, attacked Russian forces, damaged 4 Russian boats, killed 30 Russian troops, raised the Ukrainian flag, and withdrew before Russians understood what was happening. The landing on Crimea is especially symbolic because today, Ukrainians are celebrating the Independence Day of Ukraine.
In the meantime, Ukrainian forces conducted more than a dozen successful strikes on the Russian bases. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that the Ukrainian Air Force and Artillery jointly struck 4 command posts, 10 areas of enemy forces concentrations, 4 air defense systems, and 2 artillery systems.
The biggest strike happened in Tokmak. It was reported that here, as a result of the HIMARS strike, Ukrainians destroyed an important Russian command post on the territory of a Russian base. This is extremely important given that Tokmak is the closest Russian stronghold to the front, where Ukrainians recently breached Russian defense and established total control over Robotyne. In fact, today, Ukrainian fighters reported that Ukrainians are already advancing on the next settlement on the line – Novoprokopivka – while Russian forces are retreating. The derangement of the command on this front line will exacerbate the situation even more and possibly allow Ukrainians to generate new gains much more easily.
Do you get paid for all of this? To me it’s spam filling up FR space. Usually when I see that word spelled Ruzzia, I just skip over.
“Do you get paid for all of this?”
No, of course not :)

“Usually when I see that word spelled Ruzzia, I just skip over.”
If your are uncomfortable, it is most reasonable to skip that post or any post.
The etymology of word Ruzzian (plural Ruzzians) is a
neologism that followed the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Ruzzia is a blend of Russian + Z, using the Russian Z SYMBOL as a substitute assertion against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This word Ruzzia is the chosen term that is used in the title by the Ukrainian author.
Please pardon the grammatical errors & typos in Comment #34.
I’m sleepy. But, I felt you asked polite, reasonable questions & deserved reasonable answers. G’Nite 😴
By all means ignore anything spelled Ruzzia. Then you will enjoy a greater suprise when this whole mess blows up in Putin’s face. Some of what I read today of Russian troop behavior seems to indicate a slakening of support for this war.
I suspect the death of Prigozhin will further deplete Russian troop morale. I think he was a bit of a talisman for a lot of the troops. They are not happy being where they are, and Prigo made a very loud and apparently quite popular statement to that effect. May he go to whatever after reward is reserved for a person with all his acts and attributes.
Comment 6 with the show of international unity displayed for Ukraines celebration almost brought tears to my eyes. I was also pleased to see most of the 8 presidential candidates spoke firmly for Ukraine support. May it continue and spread to all freedom loving Americans.
I have been following the Prigozhin news. Some experts and some FReepers agree it is possible he is not dead. Apparently he did use substitutes to take his place during travel to confuse people. The second plane, apparently also owned by him landed and was met by Spetsnaz troops who took the passengers into custody. All bodies have been recovered at the burning crash site, but positive ID may take a few days. African leaders and usurpers who have benefitted by Wagner actions are nervous. On scene reports have said the airplane skin was penetrated from the outside, not the inside (no bomb). More might be clear after daylight searches of surrounding areas. Who knows what lies or truths are being told by various actors, and what original plans may have been afoot and now forever changed or continuing as planned??? Withholding judgements is always wise.

Ukraine’s army is running out of men to recruit, and time to win
Victory may be in sight for Vladimir Putin
The war in Ukraine is now one of attrition, fought on terms that increasingly favour Moscow. Kyiv has dealt admirably with shortages of Western equipment so far, but a shortage of manpower – which it is already having to confront – may prove fatal.
Broadly speaking, Kyiv’s highly anticipated counter-offensive has gathered much-needed momentum in recent weeks, with hard-fought gains around the strategically important village of Robotyne. If this falls, the road to the Azov sea will be in sight. If Ukrainian forces can reach the coast, they will split the land-bridge connecting Russia with Crimea, potentially routing Moscow’s troops.
Ukraine’s forces, however, are not just fighting massed defences and artillery fire. They are also fighting against time. Having first penetrated the formidable Russian minefields four weeks ago, Kyiv is desperate to exploit its early successes before mounting casualties and autumn rains destroy its fighting capability.
The summer has been wet, and the autumn months traditionally bring heavy rains which turn the soft ground of eastern Europe into a thick mud as tanks, armour and artillery churn the battlefield. This can all but halt meaningful advances, locking armies into place and buying the Russians time to add to the deeply dug trench networks and multi-layered minefields that have made retaking lost territory such hard going.
Perhaps more important, however, is the heavy toll the fighting is taking on the people of Ukraine. The Russian armed forces began the war with an official strength of one million, and a true strength estimated by some analysts at between 700,000 and 800,000.
A further two million men – former conscripts and contract servicemen – were available in the reserves, and some seven million men of conscription age (18-26) left to draw on, even before the Kremlin raised the age limit to 31.
Ukraine, meanwhile, had a pre-war population of 44 million. By the end of the first year of the war, some six million had fled abroad. The armed forces number around 200,000 active personnel, roughly the same again in reserve, and can draw on another 1.5 million fighting-age males.
It’s a brutal but simple calculation: Kyiv is running out of men. US sources have calculated that its armed forces have lost as many as 70,000 killed in action, with another 100,000 injured. While Russian casualties are higher still, the ratio nevertheless favours Moscow, as Ukraine struggles to replace soldiers in the face of a seemingly endless supply of conscripts.
Volunteers are no longer coming forward in numbers sufficient to keep the army at fighting strength: those most willing to fight signed up years ago. The latest recruitment slogan is “it’s OK to be afraid”, but there are still many attempting to dodge being drafted to fight on the front lines.
For all the difficulties the Kremlin has faced in its forced conscriptions, it still has hundreds of thousands of men to draw upon. This is a resource Ukraine simply cannot match, and one that the West cannot supply.
For Vladimir Putin, victory may at last be in sight as Western support begins to waver. If Kyiv cannot break through the Russian lines now, it may never be able to. If it runs out of willing men to recruit, the West cannot help.
