Roark Capital, which owns restaurants Arby's and Buffalo Wild Wings, is nearing a deal to buy sandwich chain Subway for about US$9.6 billion (S$13.01 billion), the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday (Aug 21).

A deal could be finalised this week, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

"Subway does not intend to make any further public comment regarding the process until the transaction has been completed," the company told Reuters in an emailed statement.

Are you talking about Subway or Quiznos?

The Quiznos toasted subs were great.

I loved the Spongmonkeys, too...

Given there were people in this corporation who were warned about Jarred and did nothing about it, the fact this company is still in business tells you all you need to know about America today.

Nah but those things are comparatively cheap.

About $3.50 for two slices of bread, 1/6 lb. turkey, slice of cheese, mayo and mustard.

And that’s for the really good Boarshead turkey.

The would be buyer also owns the holding company for Jimmy John’s, and a LOT of other chain food.

I experienced Quiznos around 2011. I thought it was a hefty price, and a marginal product. I could do better making it myself, and save money.

Terrible bread. Meat so thin that it would be more thickly applied with a spray can.

I made my final stop at Subway last week. Hadn’t stopped there for a several months. despite it being my most convenient place to get ‘fast food’ when I go to town. $17.00 for a footlong, with no extra good stuff like bacon or avocado that they charge extra for, and $3.00 for a small soda. Nope. Wouldn’t be prudent to do that again.

I stopped going to subway when they hired that purple haired soccer freak.

“The price of good subs is ridiculous nowadays. For the price of a single sandwich, I can get a pound of deli turkey and eat for a week.”

I had a “medical” morning and hadn’t eaten in about 18 hours. A Subway was my only choice. I got a half sub, chips and a drink, which the last time I ate there was a pricy seven bucks. It was $13 and change. Absolutely ridiculous.

If you want a very good, cheap meal try any of the larger truck stops that sell food. They beat all the fast-food restaurants on price, quality and speed. It’s a much better business model and I’ll bet they drive many of the fast-food franchises out of business.

Haven’t eaten there in years.

The only "food service" at Huntsville, AL airport was a Subway, at least a few years ago. If the flight to Atlanta wasn't full they held it a half hour for the passengers taking the next flight 30 minutes later.

Wife and I ate at one in Nassau, Bahamas, right next to cruise line pier. An equal mix of locals and tourists. Not awful, and by Nassau prices, not too expensive. Other than that, essentially never.

Subway was good, but now I’d rather go to Publix and buy a Pub Sub. Oh well, Pete’s Submarine Shop was a great idea for Pete DiLucia.

I don’t care for their sandwiches. They have a commercial that touts that they now slice their meats in house. Wow, what an upgrade.
