As an aside, the demographic group most opposed to women’s suffrage in the early 20th century was women.Teddy Roosevelt’s sister was a huge anti-suffragist, for example. The belief among a majority of these early 20th century women was that allowing women to vote could break up families because husband and wife supported separate candidates and also a general feeling that politics was a dirty business that Christian women should not take part in.
