Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A Texas woman is seeking help identifying a mystery animal she caught on camera in her neighborhood.
Tina Kahlig said she quickly moved to snap pictures when she looked out from her Hill Country Village home and spotted something that left her stumped.
"I was inside and I looked out into the yard," Kahlig told KENS-TV. "And I saw an animal right here and thought, 'Wow, what is that?'"
She said the creature was feasting on berries that had fallen from a bush.
Kahlig posted her photos to NextDoor, where neighbors offered their own theories, including several suggestions that she found the mythical "chupacabra."
"Some people think it's a cross between a coyote and a dog," she said.
Local legend has it that a mountain lion lives near Hill Country Village, but city officials said it has never been caught on camera.
The City of Hill Country Village said officials have reached out to the Texas Game Wardens for help identifying the animal.
Rachel Malstaff, director of mammals at the San Antonio Zoo, said the animal in the photos could be a coyote or a dog. Zoo veterinarians said it appears to be a canine with mange or other skin issues.
Texas Parks and Wildlife officials had a creature conundrum of their own in April, when a trail camera in the Rio Grande Valley captured an image of a mystery animal officials found difficult to identify.
Someone did that on purpose?
young wild boar hawg
I’ve only heard about them as seen individually. Packs of these critters would be very threatening.
They had a wild side to them, so I hear.
What state are you in? I forgot.
In Texas, if it is unidentifiable, it must be a wild hog.

How many times do you reckon this will have to be posted before someone can identify the thing?
I think we have a winner.

Thanks.
There used to be a Coastal Wolf in Oregon, supposedly went extinct in 1913 (?). A trapper told me he had seen foot prints he thought were Coastal Wolf and reported same to Oregon Fish & Wildlife. They dissmissed it outright, but I believe him. I think I may have seen one N. Tillamook Co. in 1969.
We also have hybrid coyote/dog. I saw one trying to coax a neighbor’s dogs into an ambush of coyotes.
Not sure but the tail looks a bit short. Even though it has a dark tip the tail looks too short, from 1/3 to half the length of the cat.
“We also have hybrid coyote/dog. I saw one trying to coax a neighbor’s dogs into an ambush of coyotes.”
About 2 decades ago a group of coyotes coaxed and lured city dogs to jump over a stone fence then the rest of the pack killed or wounded the city dogs.
A neighbor bred Russian Wolf hounds and another wolf killer breed. So he took them on a walk to where the coyotes
After one fatal entanglement of several coyotes being killed or seriously wounded by the wolf hounds, the pack of coyotes left our area.
Oregon fish and game guys are good guys. However, they seemed a little slow or reticent to identify Coy wolves and other critters.
Ears are to big for a cougar.
Until someone finds the carcass or shoots one........................
